macleay sunday
Out to macleay this morning for some squire, a couple of hours before low tide, wind wasn't up and there were a few showers around. Things were slow until about the turn when I'm on to my first for the day, on lime tiger jerkshad and 1/6 3/0. It wasn't a big hit, but then it took off and peeled line for a few seconds, stopped , then took some more line, a few small head shakes, get a bit of line in, lose a bit... after a brief fight I get it to the boat and chris does the net nicely. 55cms and just under 4lbs whole.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the start of a bite, no more was caught until around halfway through the run in. By now the wind is right up from the south and the tide running in from the north, a bit lumpy you could say, but the wind wins out for our drift so we go north. Again its another small hit, but this time the fish runs right at me, luckily its still there when I get line back and I net a 41cm fish, again on lime tiger but on a 1/4 3/0 this time.
The wind didn't let up until we left around 5, in that time chris caught 3 undersize fish and I also picked up a little moses perch. We also had quite a few hits that were dropped or folded the lure over the hook to prevent hookup. But finally, I caught a decent fish, its been a couple of months since I've had a fish in the 50's , and it justs pips my PB by 0.5cms Nice! Sorry there isn't a pic, was running late for dinner so I had to clean and run! Have a good one.

Re: macleay sunday
G,Day Simon, I thought i recognized the blue poly out there yesterday.
Steven 78, his Dad and I took the new Galeforce for a quick arvo session around Macleay.
It would seem we should have done the morning session going by your report.
Only picked up a few undersized squire and pike.
Congratulations on the new PB.
I was impressed with the Galeforce and the 90hp E-Tec combination.(super quiet)
Can't wait till Steve takes it offshore so we can hook up with some monster cobe's, Gt's , Snapper etc.
Cheers Brent.

The nice white beast that said "Mayhem" up the side? very nice looking boat! Looked like it would have been more comfortable than the poly in sundays conditions. We'd originally intended on a visit to Hinze for some bass, but things conspired against us and we decided the last bit of the run out was the go. Forgot to mention in the post that i was using 10lb leader and that the PB fish had opened up the gape of the TT 3/0H.

Gidday Simon
I got a quick session in around Macleay Sunday Morning and saw you guys pull up shortly before I left. I was in the red cc. I experienced the same thing, no real big schools feeding with about 30min between each fish.
I Ended up with a 38, 40 and 44 squire on nucleur chicken, 3" ps minnow grub and the 3" jerk shad respectively.
I even tried plchards an burleigh for a while but that just got the pickers going.
Anyway, congrats on the 55, hopefully this rain will put some colour in the water around the bay. I'm considering taking up spear fishing the way it's been.
Cheers

Re: macleay sunday
Shappy, yeah that was probably us, freezing our bits off and not catching fish! We fish mainly on the north western side of the point across to the big red, sometimes as far north as the furthest green and sometimes as far south as iron stem, yeah thats a big area but we've had fish from quite a few places in there, its just finding them!
Cervelo, we were wondering if the earlier morning had been better, sounds like you did pretty good, 30 mins between fish would have been ok, we measured ours in hours!
Cheers

Re: macleay sunday
Nice to hear there are some decent squire around Macleay. I usually fish around the Pin area and don’t really come across squire, but I must head north and have a look some time. I have never really targeted them before. Do you look for structure or holes? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: macleay sunday
i will say hello next time slyman, thanks for the tip on the area your fishing. i don't look that far an area normally but will from now on.
hi slime, if i am bait fishing i will anchor up on one of a couple bumps that i have marked, get the burly going and fish pillies on four gangs with no weight
if i am using soft plastics i will drift in these same areas.
hope that helps
thanks, shappy
