    merc reg/recifyer

Put a post up about a week ago about my engine making volts. merc 115 89 model. The reg/rec is $382, tiny little bit of stuff, ali box with fins ect ect. Not happy about price and me be me I havnt book marked all them good yanki sites that sell parts so if any one can help I would just like to compare prices. Most likely end up buy local but would like the option.

Blaze, you don't need to have a regulated output unless you want to.

Many older Mercs were unregulated and in reality it meant very little because the engines aren't running long enough typically to even go close to overcharging the battery. How many hours is a typical trip??

If you wanted to avoid the cost you could visit Dick Smith and pay $4.95 for a 35Amp 400Volt bridge rectifer and connect that to your stator output (the yellow wires) and one terminal to earth and the other terminal to your battery lead connection on the solenoid.

I am sourcing some reccy/regs at present as a retrofit at a much cheaper price. Just trying to finalise details on the units at present.

By the way, whats your serial number, so I can look up your engine?

    Cheers

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Thanks to all, will get the part number on monday and see where to go from there, One of the problems is that merc in aussie are saying it needs a upgrade alt kit at $1000, so the guy thats looking at it found the number by a lot of research as it has been changed.
    Thanks again

That will be the 'Mars bar" stator upgrade no doubt Blaze. However, if you already have the 16Amp stator it should have the mars bar upgrade.

You can tell if it has by looking behind the starter motor or in the vicinity of it for a black plastic case about 3cm wide and about 15cm long (the mars bar).

I assume your regulator is the type that is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, fins top and bottom, terminals on the front face to one side?

Your dealer is a bit pricey there. I just rang a local Merc dealer here that I buy my Merc parts through. Retail here is $328.10. I could probably get one to you for aboutr $300 including freight. Part number is 815279 A2 (the listed number a few posts up has a 40 in front of it which is not needed). The space between the 9 and the A is deliberate. Without it the part won't show up on Merc's computer.

A quick point for those guys who buy bits in from the US (even complete engines). As I understand the current policy, they have no warranty support here in Australia. Even a 6 month old engine will have no warranty. food for thought.

And perhaps more important is that by buying overseas you aren't supporting the local economy.

    Cheers
