yeah the weather will be the weather, but the twins are pretty sheltered first thing in the morning while the breeze is coming off the land.
You'll get out for an hour or 2 barring it blowing really hard.
here's a pic taken from the twins looking at FFP. You can get a landmark from it and just run out on that bearing as the rocks do go under at high tide and can be a pain to find in dim early morning light.

Excellent stuff NthQld.............looks like you live in paradise. If weather permits I will hit a high tide at around 7am and fish the start of an outgoing tide. I think I will cope with the conditions better if I troll around with a spoon or even a pike or Gar.
Iwill put that pic in my fishing box today. I have convinced the wife that this is where we should be. She is Japanese and if she doesn't get a feed out of FFP, I will have a tough time convincing her to try again. So thanks for all the tips and I will certainly post something up.

I had a look at the tides for the weekend your here and you might have to get up a bit earlier
Net some sards and get to the rocks as close as you can to first light.
Before you start trolling, anchor up and put a live sard out under a float and float out a pillie rig as well.
With luck you won't have to troll, but gar do work well some days but are a lot of hassle for small macks.
Spoons are easy, but at anchor with baits is the most fun.
I use 6 kg mono at those rocks, fish are small...5 to 15lb
Use 6kg and about 6 to 8 inchs of stay brite trace...number 2, 21 lb
seems the pressure is on to produce fish

I have a small problem..............just spoke with caravan park owner and told him that I did not have a tow bar. He said that "PROBABLY" there would be someone in the park to help me get the boat to the water. He doubted that anyone would wake up at 6am to help. I just have to wait and see how we go and also the conditions. Ok 40lb could be a bit of overkill so i will stick with 30lb. I hate to lose a catch but also do not want to skull drag the fish in
If conditions etc are not on my side I might resort to the river mouth or even up the Johnstone hunting a feed

If you do it would be well worth taking along.
I dont know sh!t about fishing out of the mouth of the Johnstone or the estuaries there.
But if You have a 4-5 metre boat available early sept. then this is prime spotty(also spanish around ) time.Dont know of any prime macky spots off the Johnstone but as others have mentioned Meaburn rocks(off mourylian harbour) is Ok as well as a few K's south Olive rock and Silver Sands are sure bets for both spotties and spanish.
However this all depends on the weather and to date it has been crap.
15-20 knot winds and above have been par for the course consistently for quite a while now.
So maybe a little tinny and a bit of time cruising the estuaries would be the safe bet.

hey use light gear, its shallow and usually clean = more fish

Its the same down here off dunk at 40 foot.
If there are mackeral around on any calm winters days every bloke and his tinny are out there.
Bloody frustrating if you catch a decent spanish all these fools motor right up to you to either watch or try to catch what you are catching and just make a nuisance of themselves or dont even realize they are drifting right into you and as far as trying to troll,well I've been known to shout some four letter words at boaters who dont even seem to realize that I'm travelling in a set pattern at 6-7 knots with a couple of rods out the back.Can they really be that stupid to try and cut across directly behind you?

Well guys,
I told you I needed advice and yes, I will now downgrade line strength. I usually fish the rock walls around Townsville and have lost too many fish using 20lb mono. 60lb leader does not last long when bringing in a decent salmon either. I have had hooks straightened by salt water barra and that is why I am usually loaded up. I am happy to downgrade and like the idea of hooking up in open waters and having a clean fight.

Hired a tinny and hit the Johnson. Big tidal runs so found it difficult to fish. Only caugt undersized grunter and stingrays off the beach in front of the caravan park. A great place to relax and I am sure with live bait I would probably have fared better
