    Landcruiser 80 mirror's??

Can anyone please tell me how to pull apart and adjust my left electric mirror,it does not fully tilt in to driver's view for some reason and has been knocked for a rego inspection.I have tried undoing the small screw in behind the pivot but i still can't split the housing to get to internal's.Apparently they have some sort of cable drive and are adjustable.Thank you Dan.............

    Dan
From memory (it's been awhile) you have to remove the black triangle shaped cover on the inside of your door & behind there is a couple of screws to remove the outer covers from the mirror : Alternativly you could just undo the retaining screw from under the mirror (accessed through little hole underneath mirror) the trick is to carefully leaver the mirror off the mounting frame as it's held in place on a couple of hooks (this is where these mirrors have a habbit of breaking) .... From memory these mirrors are non adjustable as they are an internal motor driven adjuster & you may have to force it to a new position ......
Be carefull not to break mirror as a replacement from Toyota will cost approx $240.00 ................ Where are you situated ??? if not too far away I might be able to give a hand ........... Mal

geees must have been a pretty thorough inspection to pick that one, but the above advice is correct, you need to remove it from inside the car, and the screw on the bottom (accessed through the hole) does sort of allow some fiddling about, they had a habit of coming loose and causing the mirror to be all wobbley, and I was told, though I have never tried this, if you hold the mirror so it cannot move, then get someone to operate the switch, the cable will slip and allow it to move more, but as I said, never tried that trick.

Yeah got it apart and it is not adjustable as i expected so i dunno what to do as the rego inspector is insisting this be fixed as other minor thing's like center diff light does'nt come on ,rear tailgate gas strut's are to weak.Guess i'll have to do something to fix it maybe some washer's behind the mounting bracket.Dan.............

Jesus, i think I would try another insperctor, some of those things are a tad "picky" it's not like it has bald tyres and leaking oil and stuff, but I guess most of those things are pretty simple stuff to fix, my Son im Law is/was a Toyota trained Mechanic I can ask him if you really need to adjust it.

Dan you have probably tried adjusting it electricly towards the furthermost oposite direction with the remote then manualy adjusting the mirror face by hand to the point that will pass? The drive should then take to this new slipped position and go from there??

    cheers fnq

Another thought is fix the mirror and take it to another bloke, the difflight is not a roadworthy item, is he hawking for extra work, i had to take a car to 3 roadworthys before I found an honest mechanic. Sure you didn't get a NRMA/RACQ pre-purchase inspection by accident??...not funny.

    cheers fnq

hhhmmm there was two models of mirrors, one cable driven that can be "forced" and one gear driven that needs to be pulled to bits and re positioned in another place in the "gear box", sometimes the screw on the bottom can be loosened and the mirror forced into place and then tighten it again.
