    Axis 27 meg

Has anyone got one of these. Just wanted to know if they are a ok unit, or am I better off getting a GME, Uniden, or Navman unit for a extra $50 ish.

Save yourself and don't bother talking me into a VHF as the 27meg suits my needs better and is cheaper, and I already got a 27 meg arial.

@ $84 delivered I would be interested to know how they rate also, does it fit in the GME hole?

my GME 27 is playing up and one way or the other it is going to cost

I bought one of these units not long ago off ebay. It had plenty of use until lately cos i left it on the boat when i traded it in.
It was a great and performed very well much better then i thought. After i finished installing it I tried it out in the front yard and was surprised to find i could get great reception, and im in an average residential area 4-5k's from the local coast guard too.
Would i buy another one? yes defiantly
Im going to order one this week but they have gone up abit since i got mine. think i payed $73 posted
Im not sure how far out to sea you could go ive often thought about getting a more powerful unit but for what i do close to shore mine never let me down. I leave it on for 3-4 hours at a time and its never had any issues.

    good luck
    cheers pete

depends where you go from and how far Mike, here in Coffs area at Arrawarra I don't know anyone with a VHF we all use 27meg. I can talk to Coffs, Woolgoolga and Wooli sea resque from anywhere that I go to.

the Axis unit is 4watt which is the same as GME etc, the max power output legal.

is there a flush mounting kit?

what is the IP (water proof) rating as opposed to the GME unit? this is a concern as I havent found the IP on the Axis

how long are they going to build them?

    are spare handsets available?

can they be serviced near you? but at that price you would just buy a new one. I had a GME repaired last year and for a basic thing it cost $100 ($65 min to have it looked at)

the new model GME means that I have to get a new flush mount kit to replace with GME

    have fun

    cheers Murf
