I've Looked At The Wiring Diagrams The Problem Is They Don't Seem To Mach Up , Well Not To A Novice Like Me . The S1000 Mentions -ve And =ve Wires But The Lowranc Dosn't ???

The first thing you have to do is either buy a plug that fits onto the S1000 NMEA plug (DIck Smiths or Tandy) or do what I did and cut the plug off so you have the Brown, Green, Orange and Blue wires showing. Connect them as per the diagram below, then set your plotter to use whichever com port you choose (com1 or com 2) You also have to set your plotter to send certain NMEA sentances to the autopilot, Im not sure which ones are needed so I set them all to ON (maybe someone can help?)

thanks shonky . it says ther serial ports ??????
what part of the menu are you able to alow the gps to send sentences?????
mine is a 7200c lowrance. great diagram , i'm not that clever here yet , but it would make discribing things alot easier .
why do you conect both ports but only use one ????
    thanks

Re: Raymarine S1000 To Lowrance Gps

    hi ther shonky1 .
well i should have ingaged brain before putting mouth into gear!
After looking at your great diagram and comparing them with the ones from both raymarine and lowrance. it's clear to see they need to imploy YOU .
NOW even though brain is ingaged , this is how i'v interpreted your message (wiring diagram anyway) you only need to wire to one port .... say no. one first. Is that right

So you'd only use the yellow , orange and negative shield wires from the lowrance.
and the orange , and the green and the other 2 (brown and blue), can they be joined together????
    as per your diagram.
so you could use the other port for say the sounder , furuno 585????????????
how am i going, mate...... just block of the others is that right.......

Re: Raymarine S1000 To Lowrance Gps

you only need to wire to one port ....
Thats right, you only use one port, com1 OR com2. The other can be ued to hook up another bit of gear (radio or whatever)

So you'd only use the yellow , orange and negative shield wires from the lowrance.
and the orange , and the green and the other 2 (brown and blue), can they be joined together????
    as per your diagram.
Again, thats right. The brown and the blue are joined together, they are just like negative wires going to the battery (common)

so you could use the other port for say the sounder , furuno 585????????????
Your on a roll now, Yes.

just block of the others is that right.......
    Yes

what part of the menu are you able to alow the gps to send sentences?????
Look at the inserted diagram and click the "Configure NMEA" button, I dont know which sentences are needed so turn them all on.

To select which port you use do this. Set the baud rate to 9600 if that doesnt work set it to 4800, 9600 should be good.

Did you find these installation videos?

    http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/D...1036&Section=2

Keep us updated with your progress. I am keen on one myself and it will most likely be connected to a Lowrance. I have fitted a Coursemaster to my previous boat and know how much of a pain in the arse they are to get right. The Raymarine is just so much cheaper than the competition at the moment it is worth a shot.
