Convince neighbours that you own an old fashioned typewriter by wearing metal thimbles and drumming your fingers on a plastic tray. Every ten seconds ting a wine glass with a pencil and run a butter knife along the teeth of a comb before continuing drumming your fingers.

Several years ago camping directly in from the curtin arti there was a few sharks that came right up to the edge of the water cruising thru every night from just before dusk and latest i saw one was about 9pm. They are looking for scraps from the campers or fish cleaners i think.

Biggest critter was a whaler about 6 feet long or so.

I went for a night snorkel out there one night and i was surprised to see several squire just off the beach and i caught half a dozen spanner crabs by hand that swim too.

Around the marker off Bulwer i have lost good fish to sharks twice and have caught a lot of good sized cod there over the yrs too.

Last december some fellas were targetting sharks landbased just north of the wrecks I believe. I've also seen quite a few target them from off the tanga jetty. They have photos of blokes with a few sharks at the bulwer shop as well, though I didn't ask where they were caught.

Mate, the area abounds with shark and one member, who doesn't appear to be around atm, catches and tags 'em from the beach all along there. he's probably out there doing it now, judging from his absence.

The difficulty is the tides. You have to fish the small tides or coming up to slack. I've fished over the ledge with a 1 kilo mullet on a balloon and the mullet has been floating on the surface, 'cause the run is that strong.

The shark spit area is just that, but also has the run, so pick your tides.

My favourite area is the south east tip of Chain Bank just before it greets Rouse Channel. (small boat passage). Fish the drop off from the bank, but within casting distance of the bank. Fish the bottom as well as float fishing. Baits on the float should be fished at about 3/4 of the way down (approx) 16ft as the shark here hug the bottom for some reason. It also helps to minimise turtle catches, who tend to swim higher, although unfortunately, there is still a high catch rate in that area. Theres some huge shovellies to be caught on the bottom rigs and the same goes for "barn door" stingies.

Chuck out a lighter rig towards the bank for lizards and whiting. This area seems to be a "highway" and we've even caught "strangers" such as samson fish and nannygai here.

I've hooked a few of the barn doors. We never get the bigger fellas in, they're just too bloody heavy to lift. I saw one nearly spool an overhead with about 400m of 50lb line on it. They're big heavy fish.

Thanks heaps for your info. I usually drift along the ledge so the tide shouldn't be much of a problem.
