    Swains Rampage

Well......Just got back from a Swains charter aboard the "Norval" and I have to tell you all. YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAA
What a trip. 9 fishermen and in excess of 400 keepers for the week. If you only do 1 more charter in ya lives, do the Swains and I highly recommend the "Norval" Scotty the skipper and Marty the deckie kept us on the spots and entertained for 7 days. The food was sensational and plentyfull and the company from the guys I went with was outstanding. Do yaselves a favour. "Just Do It"
A few pics for you lot to contemplate.

Nah mate, I caught 6 all up, 2 went to the bait pot and 4 got eaten last night with red throat fillets and trout wings. I have to eat a lot of fish over the next few weeks so I can empty out a freezer or 2 for normal food.lol.

Did you run into the fisho's out there , i heard they've been there staying all week.
The squid have been prolific everywhere lately , the weather didn't drop out like it had been yesterday when we went out so we went chasing the squid to

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

Well done NEWBY, the Norval and crew are fantastic. You certainly got amongst em there. We managed 256 for our outing and still had a ball (see post next page). How did the weather fair for you? Did you use the dories a lot? Were you guys able to fish the deeper areas a bit? Any Red emperor? Huh Huh Huh... It most definitely is a must do trip.

    Dave.
    Avast ye matey!

    Re: Swains Rampage

Yeah Mate was a great trip. The weather wasn't that great unfortunately, which meant that we were stuck in the dories most of the trip. The trip out was magic we left the gladstone marina on saturday the 7th July after meeting the crew of Scotty (Skipper) Marty( Deckhand and bloody legend) and Disco Dave (Entertainment). I am sure newbs will jump on with the tales of disco dave. Day one we had good weather so we decided to drift around the outside ledges on one of the many reefs. Unfortunately for the first two days we were plagued with pickers and rubbish fish with not many keepers after the first 2 days and worsening weather conditions some of the boys were getting a bit towy.

However, on the third day we had a cracker 119 keepers with the dories smashing them. We had to go right up on the hards into the shallows to get good fish with bust ups pretty regular even on 50lb braid and fully locked drags. Even the 80lb handlines got smoked a couple of times as the country was extremely rough. We had a trip of 2 sessions with the ,morning session in the dories producing the goods while the afternoon was very tough to get a good hang with the tide backing up against the wind, which made it tough to fish. Day 4 & 5 saw much the same with good hauls coming from the dory boys at time we had to work hard for them with only one boat getting on the right spot and pulling in good hauls. The pelagics were the worst i have ever seen at the swains with only 1 lone spanish on a floater and nothing on the troll. The just under reds gave us hell this year as did chinaman fish up to 10kg, they pull like a red and look like one to until they hit the surface great fight but a bit dissapointing when your red turns into a chinaman. As a result i think we only got about 3 reds for the trip.

However, we did get into a few spanglies in the lagoons as well as some very nice parrot and some horse sweeties. The trout were also pretty descent in size with the best one landed going 8kg but many more were hooked but bricked us in the shallows. Overall a great trip with a top bunch of blokes and crew would highly recommend the Norval in fact one of our blokes is the deckhand for the Norval this week as Marty is getting a well deserved week off. Lucky barstud one week is paying to go out the next there paying him to stay. Oh well thems the breaks not looking forward to work after a week in paradise.
    Pics to come

    Howdy Francis,

Good to see you got amongst them despite the weather. How good is it out there hey. Some nice Trout and Parrot there. Did you manage to get a few Spangles at nite? You were saying you weren't that keen on the dories have you changed your mind? It's good to see another father and son team up and smash em.

Marty can certainly handle a knife hey, hope you took some pointers home with you.

    Dave.
    Avast ye matey!

    Re: Swains Rampage

hey Dave yeah mate Marty is a freak with that knife Newbs got a video of it on his phone. Nah mate still not keen on the dories although they did save us on this trip. We ended up bagging out on sweeties, which is good considering we had so few fish on the first 2 days. Yeah mate got the spanglies right on sunset and dawn they were only on for about 30 mins then as it went dark or the sun came up they disappeared again. We got them just floating pilchards in a berley trail same way we get snapper.

Got a couple of days with 25's but was great weather really. dories were used a lot. I had only 1 day in them cause me back couldnt handle any more. Only 2 keeper reds. Max depth fished was 48m.
