Thread: internal or external antena

    Re: internal or external antena

....Apparently, the lower the mounting point, the better the view so I went for dash mount rather than bimini mount
"lower the mount, the better the view" ?? Not sure what your trying to say there?

Really the lower the mount the more possibility of increasing obstructions and especially from the people kind. If the unit is mounted on a console/dash and people standing behind it, over it (as one does to use it) then this can/might/will block signal. If in conjunction you happen to be heading south then there will/might/could be quite a large combined obstructive effect.

There are quite a few variables and scenarios with this one.

The last thing a GPS wants to see is the horizon! Low horizon satellites below around 10-15 even 20 degrees have the dirtiest signal due to atmospheric affects and basically downgrade accuracy.

As for sway? you mean rock and roll and heave? not critical at all.

Some of those that claim their GPS is "accurate to a few feet" (which it's not anyway) and claim that if it wasn't they would not be able to locate their "pin point" spots sort of forget about the relationship between the GPS and the transducer.

    Regards, Kerry.
