I seen a guy catching and releasing quite a lot of Dart at Narrowneck a few weeks back whilst I was tailor fishing. Just wondering if there any good to eat, do they have to be bled and am I right in saying there is no size limit?
Thanks
Jonathan

Bled and put on ice straight away and eaten that day there's won't a problem with their taste. Having said that of course some people prefer other species over dart and each to their own in that regard. I'd much rather a tailor or flattie fillet on my plate.
I don't mind the larger Dart. Bleed, fillet and skin and they come up OK

I reckon dart are great to eat, in fact I (perhaps controversially) prefer them to tailor.
I have taken to eating them as sushimi as well. With a bit of soy/mirrin as a dipping sauce, and a touch of wasabi paste, small cubes of fresh dart are beaut to eat.
searchin' for my lost shaker of salt
All of the above! Good stuff

Strictly C and R species for me!
Cheers.
i just spent the last two weeks catching heaps of big dart and if they are bled, skinned and reasonably fresh (up to a few days is fine) they are great eating. nothing wrong with them at all.
sure not as good as reefies but definitely good tucker. easy to catch aswell
egg and bread crumb or baked in foil on the barbie with herbs is great
I prefer fresh dart over tailor any day,so does my mates whom i served them to.Have a go they taste very good.

Yep, gotta bleed them asap. it's best to keep the big ones, because the smaller ones arent really worth filleting for the amount of meat you get off them.
As said by bballfisho, grfeat in egg and breadcrumbs with herbs in the pan. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

they are fantastic smoked. bled filleted then cut into strips. great nibblies around the beach campsite!!!!
Love em and i'm with Red Bull, better than tailor, much sweeter. Don't waste your time filleting them. Cook em whole in foil with whatever takes your fancy, the skin peels staight off. Keep at least 1 each if your feedin the fam as the fillets aren't that thick.
Me kids love em too (as long as you tell em it's chicken)
Thanks for the replies, they look pretty easy to catch so I will have to give them a try.
when we go camping, we would often get onto some dart, we would get a enough for a feed, then pretty much bleed them there, then wrap them in afoil and cook up on/near the fire on the beach.
The skin would just peel off, then u can get straight into the meat, was quite nice.
less effort then say a flathead =]
I may be a bit wasteful with my filleting style for dart but I reckon they are great tucker when bled, iced and eaten fresh. I only take the bigger models and take the fillets off and skin them normally but instead of cutting out the rib cage I just cut along the top part of the pin bone and discard the bottom section of the fillet as it usually has bugger all meat left on it after removing the ribs anyway. Very quick and easy to get some top quality fish for the table for that night.
I quite like the sound of the sushimi also, I might have to give that a try.
Cheers Kev
Get up with the sunrise, wander down from camp(Teewah) pippie for bait, always a dart avalible, bleed straight away quick gut, gill & scale . Wander back to camp open stubbie, pan fry the dart in butter, return to sand dune with beer in hand and dart on plate and enjoy another breakfast in paradise.
Cheers
