Thread: Bar Crusher's

    Re: Bar Crusher's

My original intention was to buy a bar crusher based on the reports that I had read on them..........wanted it to fit in my garage........stability at rest etc.

Accepting that they are a fishing rig, and have many positive aspects, I did find that they seem to be too much of a "work horse". I felt hemmed in by the cockpit and the gas struts for folding down had a sort of "tacky" look and feel to them. If I had to sum it up, it felt similar to being in an old Land Rover, when for that money, I'd want to be in a Range Rover.

    Re: Bar Crusher's

They are made in Melbourne (just like me) but don't let that disuade you.. Victoria has some ROUGH weather and seas and they are made for Bass Strait and the Southern ocean. Before I moved to God's own state.. I saw Barcrushers and Stabi-crafts out in weather and conditions when most other boats were tucked in bed at home.

    Re: Bar Crusher's

From what I understand they were born out of New Zealand.

The Surtees Boat Company came up with the concept and the early Barcrushers were built in NZ then shipped over and finished here in Australia.

    Now they are built here.

    See the link: http://www.surtees.co.nz/~wwwsurt/ac.../About_Us.html

I still can't get over the price of Barcrushers in NZ, $46,045 Nz dollars for a 6.1m hardtop. You could put an extra $20000 on it over here.

i have a bc 560 with a yamah 115 2 stroke with upgrade to relax seats all the extras including ski pole, sounder ,chartplotter, am an vhf radios cost was $46000 with side clears up it is dry up front but can be wet at the blunt end in heavy conditions (what boat isn') tows well behind a prado on a single axle trailer. trailer is made for the boat single person launch an reterive is easy. the set up is pretty much a turn key package pick it up from the dealer fill it up an go fishing comes from barcrusher complete with spare wheel bearings a a can of touchup paint. an the best part the dealer had them in stock at the time it came to buy didn't have to wait 4-6 months

i think you will find the 6.1 nz version is the same as the 5.60 aussie one they base thier measurment on over all length correct me if im wrong

    Re: Bar Crusher's

Mate you cant go wrong with one of these boats
When I first looked at them I thought they were a bit Agricultural however when I really looked at the boat I started seeing things
The accessories that bolt onto the boat are on seperate welded plates so there is no hull penetration everything is properly sealed where accessories are mounted. The steps are good with bare water softened feet and support you well into the boat.
The trailers that are supplied easy tow are great and I dont know what the winch is for now Do your self a favour and get tabs and put the df 140 on the back.
In respect to broaching that is crap the boats cut well in a following sea and can ride the wave face with little or no broach I run the south passage bar and outside regrularly and have done it in varying seas . Yep they are wet but I have been in the sig- cruise and they are all wet in the right seas. The fold down roof is great it fits in the shed and is secure . If you are thinking about camping overnight this is a boys boat only and you will rough it. Best thing I like is when I get home wash over the hull and gurney out the inside takes 30 minutes. I load and retrieve myself and the way the trailer is made you can step onto the boat from the side easily. The 560 is 6.1 meters long from the nose to the back of the transom hull length is 5.6 go for the dual axel trailer tows a lot better and you can load the boat up for those long trips.
Once you learn to drive these boats they will perform they are a little different but safe and mine has got me home when things turn sour without the stress.

Don't forget to have a look at the Stabi-Crafts either. I reckon a 589 Supercab or even better a 609 would be an awesome unit(s).

    Check out the review of the Stabicraft 589 from the boatpoint website;

Keeping up with the jones is not what its all about. If it floats and its safe, thats all that matters. IMO, try not to get caught up in all the feed back that you get from T\V.

New boats will break down just as easy as a old boats. The bottem line is. The fish dont care what your in.

I could paddle out on a old log and still get a feed. I just dont look as good.

    But seriously, choose wisely.

    Re: Bar Crusher's

went and had a good look over the barcrusher today. for the money, you would order and wait for a "true" platey. don't get me wrong, fantastic boat, but ya can acheive so much more by dealing with a boat builder direct, ie, fisher, amm, riptide, nobel ect.........
one thing i have noticed though, buying a hull, then a trailer, then fitting it out ya self, no bastard wants to touch ya.
i'm lucky enough to have some great friends in the industry, that are employed as either representitives or fit out technicians for major brands.
it seems though every builder, from telwater to trailcraft. whatever.... wants to supply a "package" only. and are asking drunk money for em. supply and demand i spose. the only i can stress, is RESEARCH and do it throughly.

these days, they are all awesome, just a matter of how long you want to wait, and how much ya finance a "package"

    cheers

Checkout Joshua Boats. Custom Plateys made in Bris.
Old Cliff Joshua started the flared forefoot before Quintrex got into the act.
Good looking boats that handle very nicely.
