I'm still tring to get the full pretentual out of it,as per gr8 info off of some of you,
FNQCains the most (thanks again) m8 but after raising the donk today the two holes and took it for a run STILL only 3500rpm and 32knts so home again... up another hole, back down the river STILL 3500rpm and 32.4knts BUT my tub felt better as it seemed to skip over the water nicer
So what next should i try a 15p prop???? Any help from anybody would be gr8

I am with Honda.. ya tacho must be out.. hard to make wot adjustments with a crook tacho

to get 32 knots at 3500 you would need a 30" prop at least

Hi Blu, thats Wayne's old engine is it?? We have been here before on the forum regarding the tacho rpm and wot speed I think, search back and see the replies.
As said above the tacho is most probably out somehow, your engine should have the 2.0 or 2.08 (forget exactly) gearbox therefore the engine should be running closer to 5000rpm at that speed.

Very strange that you got no extra speed increase by raising 3 holes!! there should be a few extra knots there. Any ventilation at that height? do you get bat-wings of water from the leg at cruising speed? Now for a silly question is the engine leg length correct for the transom height? (cave/vent plate should be at or above the bottom of the transom) .When at full noise are you triming out till just before the prop looses bite?

The pitch is only half the equation in total rpms what diameter is the prop? 13.25? Hope it is bigger than that will make the end result easier.

    cheers fnq

Set the tacho to 6 pulse (which is a 12 pole alternator).

In water idle should be around 700rpm. 1000+ is too high (or incorrect tacho reading).

    Cheers

Don't mean get off the track here but i get the bat wings of water in my boat with a light load. what is the cause? Sorry blu. Should be able to check tacho with Ohm meter is you have a work shop manual. check that all contections and wiring is tight and fitted correctly and no corrosion present. Ask previous owner if it was working before it was removed from the old boat. It will be simple like a loose wire if it had been working. Is every electrical wire in a seperate hole in your bus bar(the copper thing with heaps of holes in it that the main negitive or postive wire from the battery is run to) ? My latest boat had electrical feed back as the sounder and 27 meg radio wires in the same hole. Sounder and dials went crazy each time the radio had anyone talking on it. Have beer and plenty of time and check all the simple things first.

A thank you dosn't seem enough for all the help from everybody, but until i can meet you in person to shake your hand a thanks will have to do...
OK were to start fnq i am getting small bat wings but there is more water com'n
up from one of my transducer as it is a bit low cause' i was told if i'm not geting a clear reading @ high speed to drop it in da water a bit more.... As for the prop, thisarvo i took off the ????sort of prop witch was a 14"-17p and put on my brand new Solas 14 1/4" - 17p (The bloke @ Solas Shane) said (as you did) even if the RPM (tacho) is out i should be getting more than 30odd Knts (this speed was taken off of TWO Gps's GARMIN 120 and 128.....
Thanks to BM and co. i will check if the dile on the back of the Little round lier(tacho) and i will also cheak the wireing..
Again a VERY BIG THANKS TO ALL.....
    Steve....

Beauty Blu!! Look for a 13.25 X 17 and your will be a rocketship. Very common OMC prop, your 14 dia prop while great for muscling a heavy boat around is the thorn in the side of your light boats setup, 40kn here you come

Now you WILL need a taco you can trust.

    good stuff,

Back again, had to bolt away from that fly-out add that was loading, dont spend much time on here as a result these day's.

Blu if you choose, stick to 13 to 13.25 diameter props, depending on the load you are carrying you can choose between pitches to suit, 17p will see you almost touching 40kn ( but give the best overall performance) 18p (13dia or 13.25) will get you to 40kn, 19p (13dia) will get you a bit above depending, how far will depend on your hull, the prop brand, weight carried and how far you are game to trim out in the conditions. A 14diam by 14p would probably make a great camping prop (camping gear and people).

IMO those props you mentioned are useless to you, at least they would be to me if I owned your boat/engine. If you get the right props on that engine it will come good.
Be careful taking aftermarket prop seller advice, due to liability I suspect, I have yet to hear a result that was not in one way or another, ordinary.

    Good luck,

    cheers fnq
