    Flakey beach rod??

    Hey guys, can anyone help with this, a couple of my old beach rods, both 7144's have become "flakey" like ...???? after a rinse with the hose, if you are to wipe them down small flakes of resin,coating ???? start to come off, is there anything I cant re apply to fix this ??????

    I think you will find it is just a clear laquer that lots of old manufacturers used to make things all glossy. A wipe over with a thinners or metho rag will remove most of it and it will take on an even matt sheen usually.
    You often see the same things under the bonnet of ur car a few yrs after you have bought it from a used car yard. They do the same a glossy ultra thin cosmetic gloss for a better presentation.

    Yes, but you might want to give it a light sand with some 400 grit wet & dry just to give it something to key to, and to be sure you've removed any flaky stuff.

    It might be time to upgrade your eyes then re laquer it?
