Well folks, it was a quickie to Fraser for myself, my sister ( Julianne ) and her son Thomas. Not camping this time. Stayed at Happy Valley in a resort called " Sailfish ". had all the mod cons including underground carpark !!!
As the family hadn't been to Fraser before I took them on the fully guided tour but did manage to get some fishing in. No Tailor to report, but plenty of dart and whiting. Also a few tarwhine thrown in. NO weed at all could be found from Hook Point to Orchid Beach, all good news.
Staying on Fraser in winter is absolutely fantastic, mild days and cool nights and no wind, clear water and best of all, bugga all tourists. There was the usual bus loads of daytrippers and the obligatory Troopey full of B/packers, but on the bright side, I didn't encounter any " boofheads ". You guys know the ones I mean.
To my surprise,. Waddy beach camp ground held at least 12 camps , all with boats. Seems word is getting around that winter is great up there.
So, pics will explain themselves.
The plane ride was great, $70 for a 15minute flight, but for about 150 you'll get a trip from tip to bottom of the island and an hour in the sky, well worth it on both counts.
We only spent 4 nights / 5 days on the island but got to see most of it, due to tide timing and local knowledge. I managed to return via Hook Point, but on arrival back in Brisvegas I was told it was closed ?? Didn't see any signs ??
Also Costa, from Manta Ray actually turned around midstream to come back and pick us up, thanks Mate !!
A big thanks to Leone and Laurie from Sailfish for the great service, accom and stories.
Cheers Phill
