    fish ID...

Been catching lots of these toothy critters on lures at night lately. Not exactly sure what species they are, are they a sort of pike?

    Thanks,

    Tim.

strangely enough, those stinky, dirty pike are quite good to eat (I don't eat them though) I know a guy that would fish just for them ,he used to call them "Sabre Tooth Whiting" he he, I must admit, when you fillet one for bait, the flesh is very White and fine looking (just like a Whiting)

Yeah Noelm is right they are good chewing if ya eat them fresh, i got a heap of them once they are easy to fillet and i just cut the whole rib section out. Cooked in fry pan with a little butter and some lemon pepper... very acceptable.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I took a few of them and agree they do taste alright, nothing spectacular but quite acceptable. They fight well for their size on light stuff too, a bit of fun when catching nothing else.

    cheers,

    Tim.
