    No whitting but something atleast

after doing alright on sunday night getting whitting i decided to give it another crack but with gulp worms. my mate and his gf came round and i got my ball and chain and hit the stone wall at shorncliffe at about 830. i rigged the gulps up with a small sized hook/jig head and a small stinger treble about 4inches behind. the night was great again but not many whitting as we hoped, well none really. was getting hits and i connected with one but it dropped it. this was before i nabbed a nice lizard in close. against my wishes everyone else was freezing abd wanted to go home so i was 'dragged' away before i even got started. my have to put her! to bed tonight then sneak out late. shorncliffe has been producing quite a few flatties latey, shaping up well this year!

Used to do a lot of sharking off the pier but nowadays, if I've got a spare hour, I just chuck a placcy around the trawlers or off the wall out front.

how do you go throwing sp around the trawlers? ive always thought about doing it but thought the dirty water would make it a bit hard to get em, ive had a flick there once before quickly but i wouldnt call it an effort

More wishful thinking than anything else Ben, and just killing time, although I have had a couple of nice bream. Got a nice hit (and miss) on a small gold bomber near the Co-Op one day, which had me going back looking for that ever elusive Jack

I only tried the placcies 'cause bait doesn't last a couple of seconds, due to all the toadies.

The old timers wade right out onto the flats at cabbage tree and seem to do all right for whiting, but they tell me that if you ain't got worm or yabby for bait, you might as well not bother.

yeh its true, we dont use anything but worm for whitting. we dig ours, saves paying $5 for shit all. we used to do well drifting the falts at the mouth on the nudgee creek side at night on a high tide but my brother went saturday for zilch. near the co-op there heaps of bream get caught, must be on flesh bait, but i sat and watched one guy one day pull in bream after bream. and im yet to score a jack aswell, heard people catching them up nundah creek in the summer. but atm flathead are firing around the cliffs and along the board walk near the big jetty, ill prob be down there again late tonight for the high.

hey ben, atleast you caught something mate... Yeah the plastics work really well on the whitting. I have caught heaps before on gulp grubs. But have now learnt to just use gulp, blood red worms (the really thick ones). And i fish it with a sinker and swivel and just use it like bait. It is way more smellyer than bait and they LOVE the profile and blood red colour... I think its cheaper than worms aswell. As about a 3cm cut of peace lasts for about 30 whitting ...
    good luck BD

BD, sounds like your doing a lot better than me, but then again i was useing the whole worm as one bait with a stinger, had another try with it last night for lots of hits and no hookups...
