cape moreton sunday nite1st july
sunday arvo forecast was wind dropping so we decided to head out for a plastics sunset session and when arrived at the cape it was blowing hard so we persisted till the turn of the tide and pulled three knobbys as they werent big photo fish but they were mine and my sons first go on the plastics,on the turn of the tide the wind stopped to dead calm conditions so we decided to anchor and burley and watch the full moon rise and then the fun started! and no it wasnt the fish it! it was whale mania! heading straight towards us which wasnt a good feeling and made me wonder if any body has had a bad experience anchored at nite with whales hitting the anchor rope or get to close to boat? any feed back would be great! also does any one know what the small whitish colour birds are that are attracted to our deck lites that fly into the boat and lines and freak me out even more? constantly ducking to avoid these pests got too much while listening out for the next whale so we headed back in the glass conditions happi with our fish anyway cheers cr

I was out fishing for snapper inside fraser one night....dead calm night, went to bed around 2ish....was laying on the floor of the boat and around 3.30ish started to hear these noises, sounded unreal...listened to it for about half an hour and was thinking to myself geez that sounds like the sounds whales make when you watch the doco's on them on tv, then all of a sudden i hear this noise sounds like a dolphin and i get a light mist of water come over me... i got up and grabbed a torch....there were 3 humpbacks hanging around the boat..... unreal feeling to see a whale swim straight underneith your boat, about 4m below the surface....all be it a little disturbing as well...haha... they hung around until the morning....
Had another time when they woke me up on daylight one morning 45km offshore from burrum heads...

Nice to see you got a few fish mate, as well as a fright
Yeah, that winds funny. Bang on slack water it stopped blowing at the pin.......Fri, Sat and Sun, then once the tide turned and picked up, so did the wind.
