Targeting Snapper - Help
Gday Everyone...First Post!!!
Well I'm starting to target Snapper with the new boat and being a completely new style of fishinging to me I need a bit of help!
If anyone can help me on tides, burley, technique, rigs, baits, gear ANYTHING
If anyone knows anything local I'm fishing in JB and Currarong but only with a 4.1 tinny so I can't go to the banks.
Thanks for that, any help would be great

there is a heap of places to fish in that size boat around Currarong, the gear could not be any more simple, a reel with about 6 to 8KG line, a 7 foot rod and a handfull of small ball sinkers is all you will need to get started. best off to just try here and there to find your own spots, best bait is Pilchards or Tuna strips, and lightly burley with what you are using for bait, about a 4/0 hook (suicide) and a small running ball sinker and your done. Also try early morning or afternoon to maximise your chances, and fish towards the edges of any reef systems around.

Yes agree with Noelm good size hooks can vary from 4/0 through to 8/0. Bait can vary but striped tuna to slimy mackerel but pilchards also work good

taliortaker sit of it so you can float your baits back down to it.find which way the tide is running so your baits float back to the ledge. CHEERS SWANNY..

if it is only 2 metres deep, then the best time to fish there will be very ealy morning (while it is still dark) or very late afternoon, i find that the best water for Snapper in your/my neck of the woods is about 20 metres deep, and even a very slight drop off (especially if it is onto sand on the very edge of the reef) will produce the most consistant catches, way back before I ever even owned a sounder, my Wife and I used to drift around with a Flathead rig and drift untill we got a snag, then take very precise landmarks and fish any wind that would allow us to anchor on the reef (where we got snagged) but hang back onto the sandy edge, we found heaps of good marks this way, then when I got a sounder (we are talking years ago here of course) I mucked around with it untill I could tell the difference between rock and sand and used it to define edges from then on.
