    Lumox,

You definately can prepare before the trip if you want to - but you would only want to do this if you really want to start doing this fishing often. 2k for a good popping or jigging outfit is a big investment.

It's not too hard to prepare with the right tackle if you have the right information.

Please feel free to ask more questions if you want.

Thumbs up Re: stella / dogfight problems?

As Luke suggested, supply some of your own tackle if you will use it more than on that trip only, a fair bit of HD terminal tackle used in local [SEQ] Jigging can also be used in Popping.

Lumox, I'm also on a May 08 Marion Reef trip, only 326 days to go , but who's counting.

LOL - nothing in SEQ will compare to the fish at Marian Reef.

    HEAVY DUTY IS REALLY HEAVY.

The STICK BAITS with single 9/0 Owner rear and twin 11/0 owner jig hooks front, that is heavy duty.

Keep counting GPB, it is awesome.

What about Fraser Island Amberjacks and GTs - that's South East Queensland?

Trust me - I'm sure GPB is aware of how HEAVY, HEAVY really is!

These two 'tackle testers' were jigged off Mooloolaba, the other two were caught by Nomad off Fraser Island.

    Alan,

The ex-unofficial GT popping record was taken at Fraser several years back - 68.5kg i think.

Many big AJs as well haunt around that area.

all this talk is getting the hart rate up i cant wait. thanks to everyone for the replys.
gpb any help on rough locations and water depth etc would be much appriecated.
my old man his mate and myself are going on the may 11 trip.

    323 days to get fit.

I was surprised how much work it was jigging and popping, then hooking up.

The skipper we had "Tim" had an estimated 110kg Doggie and his client hooked a 70kg GT. Both landed and released at Marion. When you go ask Tim about it. He is still smiling
