i realise a lot of people are anti combo units for a whole lot of reasons but has anyone seen, heard or read any reports or used a Raymarine A65? Combo digital unit, I think it's a 8 inch wide screen (a page side on) unit that's around $3000 with map

I haven't read or heard anything specifically good or bad just that everyone raves about Furuno

Must admit im coming around to the view, i expect my computer to do all things these days, with other gadgets look at the new apple mobile phone, i reckon with technology combos are going to more common and better especially if you dont have room or bucks for seperate screens, a big boat i can see the sense in it, a tinnie dont know, reckon combo is a good compromise

I hope you got the 1 kw transducer as anything else with this unit will be a waste?

gotta love Furuno's tutorials for this unit:

I still don't understand why Furuno don't make a mid-level sounder/plotter with descent screen resolution. This unit is 7" color LCD, with only 480 x 234 pixels

I will cross this one off my xmas list. I want 800 x 600 and 1kw+ in my next purchase.

    cheers

    Re: best electronics

    Howdy all,
I have owned both examples and too me both are a as good as eachother in regards to a combo Vs seperate units. You are far better off buying a large combo unit with a big screen with all the "bells and whistles" rather than buying 2 seperate units, with inferior features, that have small screens which are a pain in the backside trying to read in rougher conditions. The main advantage I see with 2 seperate units is that if you want to update, normally the sounder, you only have to update 1 of the units.
Combos are particularly useful if dash space is limited.
In my opinion I would rather a top quality combo, such as a Furuno GP7000F or Raymarine A65, any day than 2 inferior smaller units.

As has been stated in many articles in regards to pixels, many of these smaller units with super high levels of pixels have bludged in other areas such as the reciever quality and if pixels were such a concern how come the Furuno FCV 620 and the Raymarine DX series, with 320 X 240 pixels, all have such rave reviews.
    Cheers

My paper research favours the Raymarine A65, 6.5" Vs 7" on the Furuno GP7000F but digital technology on the Raymarine and better resolution (640x480) Vs (480x234) and what looks like a better display

Can't work out all the rage about the Furuno...
