    Moreton driving

    Hi all,

Heading over to Moreton next week for the first time, well first time with a vehicle anyway and was wondering how the tracks and beaches compare to Fraser.

    Thanks

With all the rain weve had it shouldnt be too hard.

Just take it easy and look out for the backpackers.

Cheers, thanks for that. I was kind of hoping there would be fewer backpackers than Fraser, not to mention those buses.

    Re: Moreton driving

Was easy driving 2 weeks back due to the rain. Should be excellent for a at least a couple of weeks - and is never that bad in winter anyway.
Only trouble we found recently was that there was some washouts on middle rd which meant some big drop-offs and funny angles to contend with. But by the end of the weekend the traffic had actually flattened most of it out anyway.
Not nearly as many backpackers on Moreton compared to Fraser.

Thanks for the heads up mowerman and chisel. Had a great few days across on the island. One or two soft patches, but not having the volume of traffic and no great big tour buses makes all the difference.

    Cheers

The best things about Moreton (compared to Fraser Is):

    1. No backpackers
    2. No tour buses
    3. No backpackers
    4. No long drive from Brisbane (the barge trip across is relaxing)
    5. No backpackers
    AND FINALLY........NO BACKPACKERS!!!!

Seriously though, Moreton Is is fantastic. Not as varied as Fraser (no rainforest, for example) but magnificent all the same. Less crowded and (did I mention it already) no backpackers. Tracks are usually pretty good. The eastern beach is fantastic. If you are in to fishing, you have the choice of surf or the sheltered northern and western beach. Glad you have a great time.
