    Re: pudding bait

A pudding bait can be a very effective bream bait, especially in situations where you don't have to put in much of a cast. The basic flour and water mix is also very good for garfish and mullet. When making up a pudding bait for bream I will add (depending on what I have available at the time) some fish flavoured oil (such as that from sardines or anchovies, or tuna oil), some strong flavoured cheese (such as the rind from parmesan or strong cheddar which has been through a food processor and some strong flavoured sausage (hot salami, peperoni etc) and maybe some old pilchards, prawns etc which have been reduced to a slush in the food processor as well. You can't add too much of these or your pudding will lose its stickiness and won't hold well on your hook, but get it right and it's deadly in quiet waters. Squeeze a ball of it around the hook, completely enclosing the hook. You can often fish this without a sinker since the ball of pudding gives enough weight for a gentle cast. You'll find most of the bream are gut hooked because they take it without feeling any resistance.
