These pics should answer most queries
1. no dead baits are scaled but left natural
2. if baits are dead and often pike dont last too long if you dont handle them gently, they are then butterflied and a snelled rig used.
3. live pike hook thru the nose and one up the arse,
4. tailor one thru the nose and the other hook left to float along its side as the current usually holds it close.
5. usually run liveies close to boat and dead baits back further, as the jew hears the distress vibratrion he has to swim past the dead bait to get to the livie.
6. live squid are just hooked through the tail, all other are two hooked rigged.
7. Dont use pillies as they are not naturally in this area, but bait common to the area.

Yes neil came from usually spots, the ones i told you sometime you just have to brave the conditions no matter what, as they wont wait for you or better conditions to arrive
As the saying goes use big bait for big fish, is you look at the mouth on that schoolie even he could swallow most big baits.
