    Slow Week on Straddie

Spent the last week on North Straddie with my lil family and as usual fishing took a back seat. Tuesday was the only real day of interest with small schools of bait running fast along Flinders Beach allowing 2 casts before they were 50 - 100m up the beach. Small mid 30's tailor were the main attackers with the odd dart thrown in. Took a few dart and tailor on 20gm raiders for a feed and called it a day.

The bait and fish had disappeared the next day with only a small big eye trev coming in for release, which is a first in the surf for me, as was catching only a fish eye the next day :O

The swell was too much like hard work on main beach and two trips up there saw me let loose with maybe 6 or 7 casts for no bites before retiring to build sand castles with the kids.

Highlight of the week was having a clean wave stand up long enough to watch a 40 something dart power up behind and smack the raider before trying to run away with it.

    Straddie,
my all-time favorite fishing moment was just that....watching big dart chase a 20 gram raider down a crisp wave on Flinders Beach......hence the name!!!!!!
    Cheers,

    Heya Dart_Raider

That's a cool name origin I love the visual aspects of fishing and have conceded catching good fish on more than one occasion just to watch them in the water. There's something about sneaking up on fish or just being in the right place at the right time to see them going about their day to day biz oblivious to you being there that gets me in.

Good report straddie - still a great place to be even if the fishing is just average.
A few months ago, I think on Nth Straddie if memory serves, I saw 2 dart head straight for a pipi from different directions as the pipi landed on a clean wave. I'm sure they must have been watching it through the air!! I was too slow, of course, and missed the hookup. Good fun when they are hungry like that.
