Hi all
I was out trolling the other day and had just set the drag on my reel ,when my mate said I had set it wrong ,he said that the tension should be on the the stike so that the fish set's the hook , but I always thought that you set the lure so that the line was not running out . what does any one else do
When using a lever drag reel I do the same thing. I set the drag at about 3kg (if 5kg is strike drag on 15kg outfit) and let the fish take the lure while i pick up the rod and then lay into the fish by pushing the lever up to strike once the rod is in the gimbal.
I may well be very wrong but it seems to have worked pretty well for me over the years.
I will be very interested to hear what others have to say as they may have better ideas as I am by no means an expert at this.
