    more bay squire

Gday guys, decided i was going for a fish thismorning despite the forecasts of 15- 20 kn winds. I have been sick from the flu for the last few days (and a bad report)but i couldnt resist wetting a line thismorning. And what a GREAT morning it was too. Once again everyone got it totally wrong. There was no wind at all early when i left viccy point. And then just a very very light notherly. Wind didnt get up untill about 11 am. And then only 5 - 10 knts of southerly. Couldnt raise anything on the plastics first up. But did find a patch of massive squid (that i thought where plastic bags floating past me. massive) put the jig on and they took turns in hitting it. But couldnt even get them to take it. Tried 3 different jigs and still nothing. .
So i decided the weather was fine and to venture around a bit into some new area's that i have never been to/ nor ever seen anyone fishing etc.. Nothing/ still nothing. Then saw a splash. motored over and BAM big patch of reef with like big deep sandy holes in the middle. And the water was soo clear in 2.5 metres of water. I could see schools of 3 and 4 big squire swimming around!! They where a greyish colour but the profile and spots gave them away and they where everywhere. First placcy hit the water and 2 seconds later zzzzzz. Couldnt stop it... and it busted me off on the reef. Same thing 3 more times With them bitting me through/reef till i got a smaller model and landed him. YAY!!! the call was made to only keep 40+cm and hook ups as soon as it hit the water. (ive never seen my line go so fast through the water). They where on drugs these fish!! Or go to the gym. But way more active than normal. HARD TO FIND THE SCHOOL!! But i bagged out in 40 min. With a nice 1 at about 56cm (ill have to get a bigger ruler) that i decided to let go back at the boat ramp and just keep the 4 pan size ones. Didnt matter at all what placcy or jig head. As i didnt even get to put an action on it. All where taken on the drop after it hit the water. And i swear 1 of them almost jumped out of the water and caught it in flight. Didnt even get the bail arm over and the braid cut me up.
So theyre still out there boys... Happy hunting...

fish where caught at about 10am, and as soon as the wind changed direction they went off the bite... Even when i could still see them.

Good work BEN!! Pretty satisfying when you stalk fish and actually manage to entice them! Sounds like a frenzy and would have been great fun indeed!

ha, thats ok ben. Im not sure if the fish chased bait fish into this spot or not. But there was no current at all and because the fish where taking it on the drop i was thinking about anchoring up. But i didnt even get a chance too. Lost a fair few good fish hey 60cm plus i recon. Made me stop and check my line for nic's and re tie my knotts. But i was using 10lb braid and leader. Have to up it i think. I really dont mind at all telling people the spots so they can have a bit of fun aswell. But im not sure as too if they are there all the time or just fluke today. I will give it another go and see if their there again. Lets just say i had a clear view of coochie/ peel/ straddie and macleay. But if you looked you probably wouldnt bother going to this spot! I was just out for a cruise and water was so shallow i wasnt using a sounder, just looking over the side of the boat and the sandy bottom...

Nice going BD. I would rather have been on the water than working today but that's life. Of course the wind predictions for the weekend are predicted to increase as per usual so fishing the bay is out of the question for me in the tinny. Can't wait for calmer weekend weather.

Top catch Ben It would have been a sight to see them swimming around in the shallows like that. I was due for a fish but my fishing buddy came down with the flu. Hey come to think of it have you and T1 been out fishing together of late giving each other germs

Only joking T let me know when you are wello oops well and we can have a few more test runs before the R2M onslaught LOL

Well i was bored yesterday and decided to grab my mate dean aka (new member chunky lover) and go find the squire again. conditions looked great again in the morning. until we turned the bend. I hope that that is just fog or mist over on straddie. But noooo. It was rain and it started drizzling on us as i headed for my spot. But the rain got heavier and heavier and at a glance over to peel it was fine. Sun shinning, no rain so we decided to head over to there. Nothing at all. Rain shut everywhere down with dean getting the only squire on glow power bait plastic (which worked the best in the dark conditions). Wind got up and heavy stinging rain hit us all the way back to viccy point. So sorry guy's couldnt back up or check to see if the fish where still holding on that reef. Maybe another day.
