    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

Fraser Coast TFPQ sub branch is dead and buried. Never heard another thing from them after the election, all the people that promised this and that, never followed through with any of the commitments too bring action to this area faded away to the shadows.

Good riddance, Ill never part with my money or time for TFPQ again.

They arent a popular group of people around here, they promised the earth then delivered diddly squat.

    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

I believe the TFPQ ( in general ) are going strong, but just because you don't see them in the media a lot, doesn't mean they are not working their butts off trying to accomplish something for the Rec fishos of Queensland.

I do agree, however, that they should have their mugs on tele, voices on radio and names in print leading up to an election. Of course this all depends on funds available, imagine if TFPQ had the resources of the opposition/ greens or other non-mainstream parties.

I do believe that they are doing good things behind closed doors. Sometimes the ' stealth ' method works better than a full on attack. Something like what the Mayor of Hiroshima said.

Being a member of said party and more so being involved requires a passion, requires time and funds. Also, just because we chuck in a little money for the cause doesn;t mean that's where our commitment ends. Sure, we all have our own barrows to push, policies to bury and ideas to extoll, but we have to show a united front and to do that we have to have a spokesman and that person will have the passion to continue no matter the obstackles and problems.

Just because people come an go , in the party, doesn’t distract from their passion or belief, just that they probably get in over their heads in the ‘ politics ‘ of it all. Let’s face it, that’s what this is all about, politics, because that’s what we HAVE to get involved with to get things done, to change things and to make the power brokers aware of US !

They may be doing good work, Phill...but not much good cruising along under the radar if you want votes at an upcoming election. I believe they need to keep their name in the public arena so that the public know they are out there and doing something.

    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

Have noticed the few recent posts by KC refer to TFP rather than TFPQ (as was the norm around state election time) - maybe TFPQ are trying to realign themselves with the larger federal parent party rather than act on their own.

Only speculation however, as even though I too am a financial member and past contributor to the cause, have not received Newsletters or communications from the TFPQ or the Brisbane Sth Branch since late last year. Heard through the grape vine that they were doing a fundraising campaign, but have not yet been approached by the organisers.

Acting by stealth? Seems that TFPQ silence may be hurting them more than aiding them - particularly with the federal election on the horizon.

I may be no longer active within the TFPQ, but I am still doing everything I can think of the fight for the rights of fishermen, women and kids particularly here in Moreton Bay. It may not be much, but I will keep on going until the fat lady (or politician) sings and then some.

Shane your signature comment says it all - Persistance and determination is the key to get anything done. Don't wait for someone else to start it, don't let someone else run it - get your ass into gear and give it a red hot go. If you don't then don't whinge about it!!

I may not hold any level of clout anywhere, but I tell others of the situation at hand, the issue and start a debate where I can. I may not win but then I may get them onside, but they will think about what I said before they continue to condemn me and my cause.

    Chris,

Shane in my opinion has had his ass well into gear for sometime, and has given a great deal of time to the TFPQ, and gave it "a red hot go".

Lucky Phil made a very relevant comment; "just because we chuck in a little money for the cause doesn't mean that's where our commitment ends".

The paltry $20 odd membership fee won't provide much of a war chest unless membership numbers increase dramatically.

    Regards,
    Dave.

    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

    Hi Dave,

I agree with what you said. So how do we increase membership/interest? Do we start making noise in papers, handing out flyers, taking out ads in the papers or something else??

I just wrote an email to Senator Boswell welcoming his comments in asking for FACTS in this debate and asking him for his opinion on what we can do to muster up more interest in this. "We" as a group here can't just read these posts and do nothing. So how else can I help?

    Chris
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

    Hi Chris,

What you're asking is probably the Holy Grail for TFPQ. Not that I think it shouldn't be strived for. How that is achieved though, I honestly don't know. Funding is one thing (critical), but finding people prepared to put the time and effort in, plus having some with political experience is another matter (equally critical). As a member of TFPQ and ex member of the Bris Sth committee I saw how much work Shane and the rest of the team put in at state election time.

One of the tasks was to phone TFPQ members to seek assistance at the polling booths on election day. Out of a list of about 30 I had to call, I think I secured three to assist. I never expected to get all 30, but thought I may have got a few more. Two who stick in my mind that declined gave these reasons; 1) oh, I really don't want to - 2) I'm going fishing that day.

Unfortunatley I feel that the majority of fishos won't be fired up enough to take real action until it is too late. Possibly because we can all still go fishing (for the time being), and all have other priorities in life that are placed ahead of our sport.

I probably fall into that latter category too.

    Regards,
    Dave.

Yair, and don't forget the members also. The last newsletter I received was in January.

So come-on kc, what's going on?

I'm sure there are many like me out there who want to show support to TFPQ but it makes it pretty damn hard when there is no communication.

    Re: Is The TFPQ ???

Interesting topic webby..... For my 2 cents worth (maybe it's not even worth that) when I enter that little box with ballots in hand what will I be thinking? well i be glad I got the chance to vote (some people dont) I have actually been voting long enough to have been governed by both sides of politics & the results have not been pretty Job security is less houses are dearer food cost more petrol cost more I pay more tax for less services. Now I cant drive my 4wd here & there I cant fish here and there 1 of this fish 3 of that fish 5 of that fish can't fillet them it all becomming to hard. so i can winge & vote the same or i can look for a different party to vote for. Well no party is offering a job for life, no party is going to make housing cheaper or food or fuel. dispite the promises I'll wager I pay more tax next year not less and I bet the services dont improve much ..... but there is a party that wants to improve my fishing access or at least not let it get any less.

so the questions is If labour is going to screw me & the libs/nats are screwing me & the greens definately wish to screw me why not vote for the fishing party ? I dont expect them to win but at least my vote did not help sharpen the political knife that is gutting rec fishing at the moment. like i said might not be worth 2 cents but worth thinking about. which party is going to screw u the least?
