Tim N is partially correct... money does come from votes - but only POST election, the Parties get a small rebate (only if they garner more than about 4% of the primary)- something like $1.35 for each vote collected (maybe different now - but its not much) and typically this money doesnt cover the cost of contesting the election.
So how do the greenie parties and labor get the cash? Well the Greenies have many different fronts - all collecting cash - some of them are research arms - which provide the biased "scientific evidence" we hear so much about - through their research arms they obtain the Grants. They also effectively fragment themselves - targeting different environment sectors - such as AMCS - for the marine environment, Wildlife society - the guys with the koala suits - apparently preserving wildlife, Greenpeace - environment etc... you get the picture
Some of these orgs are set up as Charities... so funds are tax deductible and the org doesnt have to file returns - doesnt even have to declare where they get their money from or how much.
Labor of course has the unions... plenty of cash and influence there. Dont know about the libs... think they put their cap out to business.
The point is they all have their access to cash - different arms which then "donate" to the party... TFPQ doesnt have that and thats the problem and the people which benefit most from the work TFPQ does are reluctant to fork out the dough. Our industry in very fragmented and worse divided.
Unfortunately TFPQ has to chase the money from big business - its all very nice to say that small tackle shops can come up with a few bucks - but the time and effort to chase the $100 here and there makes it not worth the while - Small tackle shop owners are doing it just as tough as you and I.
Big business - boat manufacturers - outboard makers, 4WD makers and sellers etc are the guys who will suffer most if the industry goes down the gurgler and the guys that should pay up.
Maybe... we should...as a body of fishers - patronise those businesses who support TFPQ - I dont think its morally right to ask people to boycott certain businesses (anyway... as yet - there is no list as such of businesses who support the party) but maybe thats one way we can show our support for TFPQ? I dont know how it would work and it might be a totally silly suggestion. But if I had a choice between say two outboards same stuff just one company supported TFPQ and another didnt - then I'd choose the TFPQ supporter.
The greenies do it all the time support "green" companies - even the bronco's do it; ask the members to support the businesses that support them... in the paper I see businesses offering discounts to bronco players and supporters.
Why cant we do the same.... I dont know - just an idea!
Next time we are buying a big ticket fishing/boating 4WD type item - ask them do you support TFPQ?
not a perfect idea - just an idea.
Cheers,
Adam
