Hey, to all the fisher people,

Can someone please advise me as to what the following fish is. I have looked high and low and cannot identify. I was released alive.

I cant make out the tail shape but the head reminds me of a ling that is caught in deep water inbass strait.

Looks like a southern jaw fish to me or part of the jaw fish family hard to say for sure as its pretty dark in those pictures, their a bloody slimey ugly fish though thats for sure.

The head shape sure looks like a large version of a jawfish, popular aquaruium species. Hard to be sure as all the jawfish I've seen are very colourful pretty little fish..looks like that one has been eating toxic waste to grow that big.... gotta love those crazy eye's.

The tail was eel tail shaped. This fish was caught in shallow water, 15 foot, in the Hinchinbrook Channel.
