I recently told a mate that i was thinking about buying a Yalta555. He commented that they were see through. Being reasonably cheap for their size i thought he may have something.Has anyone found this to be true?I have had some reports from membersthat were positive but i was wondering has anyone got a negative report on these boats?
hhhmmm I can see through the windows and windscreen on my boat!! now to answer the question sensibly (if thats possible from me) all boats are see through, if you look from inside and up towards the Sun, you can 'kind of" see right through the gell coat and glass, but never really looked at different brands to see if any are more see through than the rest. I also do not know anyone with a Yalta, so know nothing about them.
Most boats seem to be thin, but i was told by a fgi rep that glass reaches its maximum strenth at 6mm,not sure how true this is.I just sold a 7 metre hains signature and it was very flexible,my mate used to tie up along side in a 17 foot allisson and as waves came you could see the sides of the boat flexing, also when you walked on the front deck you had to walk gently as it also flexed,i do way 108 kilos though.

I have a 555. I have been around glass boats for a long time and its not thin. Bare hull is 720Kg in the middle for size of boat.
If something happened to it and it was right-off I would be straight on the phone to order another one.
I think they are cheap because they don't advertise, run expensive showrooms, websites, saleman, boatshows, etc and are a small family Business in regional Gympie. Go for a run in one when it is rough.

It depends which Yaltya you have. The business has changed hands a few times over the last say 20 yrs and some boats were great and others were rubbish.
The more recent boats seem to be quite wel made though, so rest easy
Just a thought, have a look for a thread about a yalta odessa rebuild by
Grand_ Marlin. I fished it with him, It was eventually sold at john crawford marine, It was an excellent example of one of these.
I've got the Yalta 535 , beautiful boat , soft riding, solid and well made it is every bit as good if not better than a Haines Hunter I used to own a few years ago. What I like about them is that you can use them as a family boat with rear lounge and all the comfortable fittings that women love then when you want to do a bit of serious outside fishing you can take all of the "family" stuff out and turn it into a bare bones fishing rig.
Spot on dunmears. They are very flexible. I do the same with the rear lounge. I leave the esky in the centre when fishing so that I can get right into the corners of the boat to brace against.
When we do the family day we put both bins in for the swim gear and extra seating.
Graeme. I'll try and post the mods I have made to mine but I away for a week so it may take a while.
All good info thanks people. just what i needed for some reassurance. Now all i have to do is con the minister into it. anyone want to buy a house in Newcastle??
