Minn kota
Anyone else out there having trouble with there minn kota,a mate of mine his has died twice, my once while on holidays and now ready to go away on a trip of a lifetime and it has crapped itself again!!, Smoke came out of it this time been sent to bla and promised a week turn over and just had a phone call today and it hasn't even been looked at so people out there looking to buy a electric outboard choose carefully!!! When you pay $1400 for something would be nice if it was there to be used anytime or at least repaired in a short period instead of 3 weeks or more.

Re: Minn kota
I had real dramas with a Riptide I put on a boat years ago,the motor had to be totaly rebuilt twice in six months with no warranty because 'I obviously was doing something detrimental to it',your mate is lucky he's getting warranty. In all seriousness you couldn't give me one these motors,OK you could but I'd sell it the next day.I recently added to the boat 'collection' and the Watersnake I put on shits all over the minnkota for reliabillity.

Re: Minn kota
Ive owned a riptide now for over a year and have had no problem with it.Although i did buy a Minn Kota portable battery charger 1st time i went to charge a battery smoke started coming out of it. .
I sent it back and had a brand new one within the fortnight .
Lately though i have heard of more poeple being upset with the service by minn kota

Re: Minn kota
Good post guys and interesting to read your experiences.
Ours is taking ages to get going. It cuts in and out and seems to go better when it warms up in the day.
Battery is fully charged and cleaned (wet and dry paper) and CRC'd all the terminals on the Minn Kota etc and it's still doing the same.
It changes direction just fine just the acceleration part of it seems to be the problem all you hear is a click as if it's got the signal to accelerate but nothing happens.
Would love any tips you electronic guru's have to spend a quiet day on the water with the electric instead of having the motor running all day!! I'd rather get it going well with all your advice than send it away for $$$$$ repairs.
Cheers Lyndon.
