    Squire at back of coochie

Went fishing for Squire on weds afternoon and almost bagged out an hour and a half after we got there. As soon as the baits hit the water it was on. I have started using 5' whiting rods for the squire; cost about $25 each and boy do you have some fun. My partner was pulling in this 42cm squire while all the time mumbling "to heavy, to heavy" We caught about 40 squire but took home the bag limit. First time it has ever happened. I was cleaning the boat of all the blood when I came across a piece of rattty bait. Edith said to put it on and have one last go: so out it goes for 1 minute and that most beautiful sound zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. When they do that you know its going to be at least a keeper. Played it for a few minutes and lifted it into the boat on the mono trace; 48cm. Most were around 37-42cm. The size has improved with the cold. After cleaning we pulled out of one of the fish a green squidgie on a 2/0 hook with nitro head. It still wolfed down the bait I was using. I have used some plastics there as well but found that the fish were only hanging on to the body and had not got the hook in their mouth. Every time we go now we get at least 6-7 good fish plus the heap of smaller fish. I use larger baits now as I think it gives the larger fish to muscle the smaller ones out of the way. Have only started to get back into fishing and realise there is so much I dont know. Well hope there is plenty of time to find out. Good luck guys and tight lines.

Thats nice catch sharky. Mate, I have been fishing for 45 years, and each year it seems that i know less about fishing.....or is that really the young blokes and blokettes tryin more different things to catch fish and us old farts just trying to keep up? The more there is to know..the more there is to live for!
    Well done.

Those are terrific fish and that is a great report! Many thanks Sharkyman2.

Nugget is always talking about Coochie being a good place for snapper. He might know something.

Sharkman, top stuff. I too would like to line up to borrow your esky for photos.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.

Ha Ha Ha I will trade you my esky for 3 magic squidgies...... no beans though . My foot is in the photo so you can see how big they are. No I am not 100cm tall . I fished the west side of Coochie. Used to work part time as a boat boy for a company that used to sell underwater land over at Russell. One of the guys used to fish there all the time till he pulled a squire up and into the boat a noah followed. He kicked it back in and cut the anchor rope and took off. My boat is only 3.85 metre long and I get a bit nervous out there some nights. I end up going to work half dead..... but then I can sell plasma and LCD when I am half asleep. one of my most interesting days was bagging out by myself from 11:30 till 4 pm. Just drifting back and forwards. have lots more photos but have only just discovered how to resize them. Am going down to the bedroom on weds morning for a change......to many squire; the other half wants something different. She cleaned and filleted 10 fish for me the other night when I was too knocked up to do it myself . Have to watch her she outfishes me sometimes
