just a quick one.
My 488 has in the past had an alternator put on it as the stator must have died.
Whenever I stop the motor it makes a rattle noise. I have put it down to the old stator. Maybe the magnets or something inside worked loose. If this is right, how do I go about pulling the loose bits out. Or is it better just to put up with the noise?
Undo the centre bolt of the "Alternator Flywheel" and using a 3 leg harmonic balancer puller pull the flywheel off and you will have access to the stator.
Unbolt the stator and disconnect its 2 wires and remove it. I would be surprised if it was loose. The flywheels can sometimes rub lightly against the stator coils and give a sqeaky type noise which will go away when the engine is warm.
Remove it (since its useless to you anyway) then it might be time to search elsewhere for rattles.
