    new rod's virginity broken...sort of

Went to kawana weir today hoping something might be hiding in the dirty water. Despite there being a big difference in water levels on each side there was no flow, which was disappointing. After casting round for a while with the plastics and scoring a few smaller flathead and moses perch I actually caught a small pike and decided to throw him out on the new snapper raider (not so new, 4 or 5 trips and still no fish!) hoping for one of the bigger flathead. Kept casting the softies while the pike swum around. After about 15 minutes there was no more strugges from the pike so I thought I;d check him. Attached now was one big dead weight which on closer inspection turned out to be a massive mud crab I was getting all excited and thinking about the posibilities for dinner when she flipped over to reveal disaster...jenny. Got her up on the jetty, cut the line as close as possible (not very close!) and gave her a little nudge back over the side. That was the end of the excitement, still an interesting little session. I just wish I knew when they were going to open the flow between the two sections, as this has been when I've had my best luck at the weir.

It's on kawana island. It's a bloody rabbit warren in there mate, but the way I navigate there is to follow the signs to the land sales centre, then when you get to that roundabout turn left and keep going straight til you see a spot where you can drive up some stones onto a big field, I think the place next to it is the retirement centre john wood flogs on tv. A nice little spot to fish, though it can be a hit and miss affair. I just really wish I knew when they were going to open the gates to let the flow through.

Sorry Joel, I still reckon your rod is a virgin. You can't pop her cherry with a crab.
It's a fish- ing rod remember? Not a crustacean rod! LOL

    Cheers Jeff.
