    Sweers Island.

    Hi All,
I have just returned from a four day trip to Sweers Island [in the Gulf, near Mornington Is.] and while we did not catch any world beaters, we still ended up with some great quality fish.
We flew into Sweers Saturday morning with wind blowing a good 30knts, Most mornings where pretty uncomfortable fishing till lunch time, but around dusk we would end up with glassed out conditions.
I usually spend my time fishing deeper water 40m to 70m, a lot of our fishing on Sweers was on shallow reefs around the 2m mark! So this took a bit of getting used to.
We were only allowed to take 12 kg of luggage on the plane, so when I weighed my tackle bag and it came in at 10 kg, I some serious trimming to do. We took a lot of lures for trolling and heaps of plastics. No one on the trip had much in the way of experience with plastics, so this was to be a huge learning curve for everyone. Initially we experienced very poor results with the plastics, but by the end of the trip we managed to get good results ''bumping'' the plastics over the shallow reefs. Even in the only deep water 70ft. ''Jew hole'' we where getting smashed on the larger weighted plastics.
Sweers island is adedicated fishing resort taking a maxium of about 26 guests at a time with included in your daily fee. [except alchol]. This includes the boats which are great twin hulled tinnys with Yammie 4 strokes on the back.
Red throat, cod, coral trout, Jew and Parrott made up the bulk of the catch.
After what I learnt from this trip, I hope to get a chance to go back next year and get back into them!

    Cheers Troy.
