Thread: Rust protection for Trailer

    Re: Rust protection for Trailer

I'd go along with Tectyl. I gave my trailer a good going over with it, though time will obviously tell how effective it is. Although since I used it there seems to be little white spots.

Has anyon noticed this sort of effect?

Steve, white spots sounds like salt.

Hope your trailer was clean before you applied the 506 or you've trapped the salt in.

turps + rag...soap + rag...water blaster... sun dried then 506 = amber trailer with no white spots

Personally I don't trust lanolin based products. I have no scientific reason this but I think it scrapes off too easy. Just me.

I prefer using penetrol. it gets in to every little crack, cravice and bolted join and dries hard. You can even put it on over existing rust and it will stop it spreading.

Got put onto penetrol when I got my last 4wd back from fraser island years ago and had to respray the underbody. Mix the penetrol with black paint in the appropriate quantity and sprayed it - never saw rust under there.

Try Lanotec. It is good stuff. I ground back some rust on my trailer and didn't have any cold gal to paint it with so I sprayed it with some lanotec temporarily. It lasted for months and the metal didn't even look like rusting.
