The endless problems with my Eagle FishELite 640c continues! Its less than 5 months old and I have already the head unit replaced under warranty with the backlit screen not working. Its not just as simple as changing a light bulb either. The entire screen need changing (bit of food for thought for people considering purchasing on these, or similar units with advanced flourescent cold-cathode backlit screens) It was cheaper for them to give me a new head unit instead of fixing screen.
NOW..my transducer is pinging eratically (slow then fast in a random way), at diferent noise levels and sometimes not at all. this is causing the screen to give give eratic readings or freezing the screen. Should the transducer ping rythmically at the same rate, noise level and frequency??? My hummingbird bowmount sounder does!!! If I turn it off for a period of time then back on again it works fine for a while then begins misbehaving again. (this occurs travelling and stationary) The chartplotter function works fine with no loss of GPS signal or position. With this I am assuming it is not a power supply problem or transducer position problem.
If anyone has a similar Eagle unit, could they switch their sounder on in their shed and have a listen to their transducer pinging for me, and tell me if yours pings regularly. Any other suggestions, solutions of advice is greatly appreciated.
My eagle 480 fishmark used to ping away at a constant speed. I could actually hear it at the head unit which was a bit weird. But back to yours, i dont reckon its the transducer. Not much seems to go wrong with transducers. I would be inclined to think you have more problems in the head unit
I don't want to be a kill joy and I hope I am wrong but, I used to own a marine electronics store in Manly Brisbane and Eagle was about the only brand we would never stock.
Had a truly dreadful reputation for reliability and poor after sales service.
....... like I said, hope I am wrong and you can get it fixed OK!
Shane. unfortunately I think you are spot on!! after doing a few tests on other transducers, andwith other head units on my transducer, it appears to be a head unit fault.
PP - You are spot on too!! I have learn't an expensive lesson. I don't think I will send it back for warranty. The chartplotter function works fine. I might just buy a sounder to go with it (should get a plotter/sounder combo incase the inevitable happens with the eagle ) I dont trust it now, even if I do get it repaired or replaced.
I should have taken more notice of the many other problems with Lowrance/eagle sounders people have had in previous threads.
