I know where I can get Mullet...last time I went up the maroochy river I could not seem to get any there...can you use fresh dead mullet? mullet fillets? Maybe my only resort if I can't get live ones at the spot.
Fillets from fresh mullet will be fine, as would live mullet.
Don't be afraid to use a large bait and large hooks, I use 10/0 Gamakatsu suicides, if they made a 12/0 in the same pattern I would use that, jewies have big mouths.

Well dropping the Mrs' off to work in the morning, then will throw the cast net a few times to get some fresh mullet...so I will at least have some bait with me for saturday.
Sometimes you just get lucky I suppose. This was caught about 1km off the beach at Newcastle in the middle of the day. From memory (I was real sick at the time) I had either a slab of bonnie, pilly chunk or squid and pulled this bad boy in on 10lb line. (Like I said, lucky).
If you can get access to a boat and target some reefs though you might have some pretty good luck.
