hi ther folks does anybody have an arvor 20 like to exchange some knolage and queries. thinking of changing the steering to hydrolic and was wondering if anyone had alredy done the job?
ho\to ho now is 2.5 turns with hydraulic it'll be 5.4 , curious to know how that effects the handling....pat

5.4 in a 20ft boat is horrible but only if you have not already bought and installed the hydraulic steering otherwise all is cheezy

IMO there is more than one hydraulic system out there, you can have 1 turn lock to lock if you like, after the luxury of 2.5 you will miss it if you go the poverty pack hydraulic steering.

I have 4 turns (i think) on a 19/20 foot boat and it is a pain also.

I have no experience with an arvor, but having hydraulic on a 225 outboard makes the steering effort much less.

But it is a pain in the butt when you want to go lock to lock in a hurry at low speed manouvering in a marina etc.

With such a big keel I would think that you would be lock to lock more often than an outboard.

Given that there is bugger all weight to move in a rudder compared to a heavy outboard, what makes you want to change to hydraulic?

i want to put an auto pilot in the boat, so i have to go to hydraulic. have been making some quieries and i think i can cut the turns down from ho to ho from 5.5 turns down to 3.8 with different hydrive rams .
the ram needs to be from 80cc- 200cc . so i'm looking at the hydrive 110 or 160 ram.
the auto pilot that i'm looking at is the wirless raymarine S1000

I'm assuming you've got a 225hp 4 stroke? not sure.. but what sort of fuel consumption do you use? an average of say 20 Litres/hr or similar?

thats gotta be imported for that price ? isnt the wireless remote an add on feature to any of the new raymarine autopilot's. surely the controller isnt 1500.
