    Transducer setup

Hi all. Having problems with loosing signal on my Matix 65 when under speed. I know it is hard sometimes to show the bottom when on the plane, but the number read out drops out too, which is frustrating, especially when navigating in new areas. Have tried adjusting the transducer up and down and have even re-routed the cable so its away from all other wiring in case of electrical interference from the motor. I did notice that where the transom meets the hull, there is a slight lip from a weld just to the right of the transducer.
    Any ideas guys and girls?
    Thanks

    Re: Transducer setup

What speed is it dropping out at?

It might need to angle down a bit more at the stern of the ducer.

The depth should be such that the inside lower edge of the ducer is fully exposed to clean water coming from under the hull. approx 3mm below hull level on the inside corner is usually good.

But, some ducers just plain won't work at speed. Mine is dropping out now at about 19 knots.

I just reinstalled my old lowrance x 65 with the ducer shooting through the hull to give me readings at speed. 36 knots and no problems. I only turn on my Raymarine sounder when I am travelling slower in fish finding mode.

    cheers

    Re: Transducer setup

Drops out at any speed. Moved the transducer on friday a fraction away from a lug of weld which was sort of in front of it. Reads a little better and doesn't drop out as much nw, but still drops out. Took the boat to Somerset yesterday and had it up to 30 knots without dropping out, but not all the time. Sometimes dropped out at just on plaining speed or below. Think it may jut be the transducer. Will play with it and adjust up and down and the angle too to see if this helps.
    Cheers

    Re: Transducer setup

Well, looks like I've solved the prolem. Found a very small lug from the weld directly in front of the transducer. Moved it off to one side about an inch and now doesn't drop out even at 30 knots. Me a happy chappy now.
