    Off Shore Southport

    Hello All,
I went out solo for a run out to the 36 Fathom Reefs for a little bit of a look. It was calm with a slight swell and no wind at the 24's so I thought I would venture off to the 36's. I got 80% there and found the swell a lot bigger and wind picking up. I thought that the weather had started to change so I headed back to the 24's and found them very comfortable.
Fished 3 hrs and landed one dirt grinner. Something that has still got me upset was that there was a good Cobia hanging around my boat. I dropped cromies out the front of it and even baits but it would not take anything . I threw some pillies in and it ate them but would not touch anything with a hook in it......Cant understand.
    I decided to give up...
    Upset and without a feed.

Yep one of those things.I was out today and found some horse yellowfin on the way home but every time i threw a lure in there vicinity an albatross would bomb dive it.They are a real bugger to untangle to.The yellowfin didn't have a chance. So i sympathise.Ben

Yes i have had that aswell with a mackeral. Ive found apart from hiding the hook i look wich way he's facing or swimming off and cast away from him so not to put the bait between him and my boat. They seem to feel much more comfortable and take as they run off away from me. And then they bite me through ..... But having said that i had a double hook up of just rubish fish once with a 2 dropper pato rig that was followed up by a cobia. And after derigging 1 fish and trying to get the hook out of the other, the bait was only just touching the water and the cobe nearly jumped out of the water to get it and nearly dragged me and my rod in. So depends on the fish... But 1 things forsure they are not dumb...

will try this next time ....I recon with a 2m gaf I would have landed him. But to be honest the 20 min we spent together staring at each other it almost turned into a new pet!!
