    Daiwa Sol or Shimano Twinpower?

    G'day

Just looking for a new reel for my chucking rubbers in a 2500 size, will be running 8lb braid for the reefs around moreton bay on a 7' 2-4kg live fibre lightning.

Who has either reel or has used them? By all reports the sol has a fantastic drag and in general the daiwa spinning reels are better then the shimano.

I do like the water proofness of the little sol, is the twinpower similar in this regard?

They are similarly priced and I have never used a daiwa reel, am happy with my shimano gear so i'm undecided.

mate theres been a few posts along the same line of this one, search back a few pages. im in the same dilemma as you...

iv decided the sol is a better reel for braid, with a biggerr and longer spool, much more helpful when fishing for braid.

iv been told by guys that the twinpower was designed with the US and Jap guys in mind...and alot of the use flurocarbon...and just by looking at the twinpower, the spool, to me anyway, looks small and cramped up..that wouldnt suit braid at all..i could imagine plenty of tangles.

i love both reels, but i would take the sol

Got mate with a 1500 twin power form breamin with 4lb braid on it, wont shut up about the bloody thing.

I reckon its a personal preference thing, they are both going to be good.

I was at this spot about a two months ago, and decided to go with the TD SOL. It came down to physical size, balance on the T-curve rod I put it on and feel/tightness/balance of the retreive. I like it that much I have just bought the TD SOL3000 too.

There wasn't much in it though, the twinpower is a really nice reel.

Gotta love that air bale and, ah, distinctive colour (i am getting use to now).

    Hope this helps

    mate go the sol,
i recently purchased a sol 2500 as well and cant speak high enough of them.
Ive always had shimanos and was looking at another but after a lot of research decided to go with the sol.

you will get a lot more features in the daiwa reels for the money, the new digigear and waterproof drag are just two of the many. I just love the way its designed for saltwater, (water proof drag and overall shape to encourage runoff). Once you get it mate you will see why its the best fishing reel manufacturer in Japan (world leaders) and the world.

shimano are still good but il tell you right now il never buy another

Thumbs up Re: Daiwa Sol or Shimano Twinpower?

mad max, just on Twinpowers with braid. I have a 2500, 4000 and a 6000 all with braid and never a problem with tangles, I must have blasted a thousand casts today around Old Woman Is and Coolum reef with poppers, stickbaits and SPs using the Twinpower 6000 and a Daiwa Emblem Pro without a tangle or wind knot from either of them.
I buy all my spinning reels [not baitrunners] for braid, and I recon Sol and twinpower spools are on par with each other.

Blackened, check them out for yourself, only you can choose. Daiwa owners get carried away a bit with things like "waterproof drag", [Daiwa calls it 'water resistant'] 'they've heard' [hearsay] or 'imagine' plenty of tangles, a lot without facts.
They are both top 'washable' reels with top drags with spare spools.

    G'day

Thankyou everyone for your input, Its an absolutly bloody minefield out there with these reels.

MadMax, I'm aware of the other threads, and tey all run along the same lines. Also think a compaison between these 2 in particular was warranted.

I'll go and have a play with both reels and see what comes of it.

I'm still torn, love the shimano because of my other gear but then again, would like to dig deeper into the sol with the technology

    Anyone else have any input?

Na na, i like the twinpower colour wise compared to the sol...who wouldnt. then feel..its a touch smaller, i like compact reels.

im going on advice from people i personally know, who have used both reels for similar applications. dont get me wrong i love the sol aswell, just a bit of a size difference im not use to.

    [quote=GPB;633301]mad max, just on Twinpowers with braid. I have a 2500, 4000 and a 6000quote]

Oh dear, the 4000 feels like they decided to make a sustain with a slower gear ratio and then slapped it in a box before they checked to see if it was balanced.
