Does anybody know much about the 787c2i. We are looking to purchase same but are tossing up whether to buy it from US or Aus dealer. US dealers are less than half the price of aussie dealers even including postage. Have spoken to a few people who have bought from overseas and they have had no dramas. Would like your opinion and stories.
Also if anybody knows what the C-tick approval is?
I have used the 787c2i. It is perfect for someone who wants to turn it on and go and doesn't need many manual overides or sophisticated controls. In its price range it is about as good as you can get, and you can actually get a true 60 degree view without turning up the gain or sensitivity like you have to on other models. With the 787 you will see a section of bottom equal to your depth.
As for buying in the states, yes you can get a good deal. You will not be able to buy from an Authorized Humminbird Dealer because they have to sign an agreement with Humminbird to not ship their items overseas. You will want to make sure that you have excellent communication with whoever you buy from and that you are totally comfortable with them. If they don't communicate well don't buy from them. Another drawback is the Humminbird from the US only have imperial, no metric and the warrantly is void in Australia. If you have a problem you have to ship it back to the states Also the background map is US only so you will need to buy Navionics charts for navigation.
I recommend that my Australian customers who buy from the US buy Garmin, Furuno, or Raymarine as they have worldwide warranties, use the metric system, and have worldwide background maps. You can also get these brands easily serviced in Australia. You will still probably want to purchase detailed navigation charts or buy a unit that has them pre-loaded.
Let me know if you need anymore information.
Good Luck!
I've been looking at the 787 too, mainly as I use a laptop as a chartplotter and the 787 would make cable conection simple as I could run depth and position info through one cable to the PC and position to the radio through another cable. Piscatory Pursuit do any of the brands you mention have a sounder that would allow me to do this?
