    Squid On Sunny Coast

Hi ladies and gents. For the Last 2 or so years the old hunting grounds on the Sunny coast have been a holiday leave affair. I'm back soon with some new tricks i hope.

Can anyone give me any info on catching live Squid in the Caloundra to Maroochy area. Ive caught them in the Mooloola near the mouth as a bycatch but havent targeted them before. Any area's that get them regularly and times/months would be great.

P.S. Whats the go with blokes holding onto "Secret" bream spots. I mean not a bad fight or eat but theyre no Jack in either department. I have a giggle to myself every time i see a post where blokes wont give away where they caught these decent bream, i mean come on guys there's only a million of them in each river and if i was going to catch a feed bream would be the last thing id target as when i do target something hard to catch the bream are a bycatch in my oppinion.

    Cheers Chris

Jeez Chris you started off good in the post then hang crap on the bream boyz saying "Whats the go with blokes holding onto "Secret" bream spots". If your getting anything of deccent size and a feed you would hold onto them would'nt you? Spot x. Maybe if you had more than one spot you would pass the marks on.

Do they get squid in the harbour? you would think so

probably also the fact they may have searched long and hard for that spot and dont want the crowds, i know i love it when im by myself no noise no one around and im having a great session, hard to beat.
you also gotta know that with crowds come the unwanted few..
(by the way i dont believe anyone on here would come into that category, seems to me everyone on here has respect for others, but no everyone in australia is a member of this site)

I used to think the same way, but once you find a good spot then you do tend to keep it to yourself.

I don't see the bloke who wins King of the Pin every year sharing his spot.
    Why would you.

Spend the time and be prepared to go home empty handed plenty of times. It's easy to be lazy and hard work is hard.

I think this is an interesting subject but I think it belongs in another Thread.

The old saying 10% off the fishos catch 90% of the fish rings very true which is no fluke.. The good thing about most fishermen these day is we catch and release meaning our little secret spot will continue to produce over and over. totally agree with BEN, catching fish by your self or with a mate and not another soul to be seen..pretty tough gig.. Chris maybe you should come fish the oyster racks with 1pound line and see how much higher you will rate the mighty 'Breambo'.

    Re: Squid On Sunny Coast

Sorry boys wrote that thread late last night and really didnt read it the way you guys are. I see how it sounds now lol Didnt mean to sound like i was hanging it on the bream lads. ha thems the breaks. I totally understand where ya commin from especially on the quiet spot point. While almost every bream i catch goes back for you blokes, unless it's in a spot that has good fish i target i'll let you guys know. Actually when i get back Ill start taking photo's and let you know where i get em.

Now hopefully thats taken care of, has anyone got any pointers on Squid? Are they all year round etc? What sort of areas do you get them? (Hoping the squid spots aren't secret squirrell too)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The boardwalk at Caloundra usually harbours a few decent tiger squid and wading the shallows near dropoffs works too.
I would be looking for any decent strength lights that shine onto the water and you will score under them. Toorbul boat ramp has good lights and its a good spot for picking up a feed of big tiger squid usually.

when i was up at caloundra last time i was gathering some bait in the cast net where the boat hire boats are next to military jetty. managed 4 squid in the space of about 15mins. Right on dusk. They wernt the biggest ones tho, PERFECT for live bait. probably to do with the weed bed that sits just out there.
Also i have seen seem very large squid around the bridge in the entrance to pelican waters. pity i didnt have a jig cuz i aint cast netting there lol.

    Re: Squid On Sunny Coast

Right in front of the carpart at the nat park amongst those boulders at high tide I have pulled a few decent tiger squid. You will catch a helluva lot more big squid in the Noosa sound. There is a restaurant on the sound with a pontoon beside it. Casting around off that pontoon usually gets a person a great feed of big squid in winter.
