will this prop do
Currently have a 5 blade SS prop on my 150hp Merc but want a 3 or 4 blade and have been offered a prop which came off a 150hp Mariner at a good price. Whilst the prop fits I'm not sure whether there is something missing or I maybe I have to get a new hub for it. The prop offered is a Vengeance 48 16316A45 19 pitch and the spline fits and seems to go on ok but where my old prop has a solid brass bush on the inside this one has a tapered rubber bush with what appears to be a number of hard protrusions. The hub and spline are removeable and checking this website (which was interesting) I wondered if I needed to replace the hub. The original is on the left.

Re: will this prop do
thats the way of them, instead of a rubber shear bush that black peice in the centre will break if you it hard (its not rubber though). You can get a spare one and if damagaed it can be changed over in a couple of minutes. Dont rely on it to break to save your gearbox though.

Thanks Blaze - I took some measurements and it appeard that the hard bits would press into the outer flange on the shaft where as mine it seems that the brass bush would press on the inner part of the flange. The flange is stepped.

Re: will this prop do
Hi Dignity it should come with a forward thrust washer and special nyloc nut, also a rear ward splined shaft, the kit's for these are around $115. The kit is good to have anyway as you may need to replace parts. It's a flo-torq II.
If this link works thry here :

Re: will this prop do
fnq - the prop came with a rear splined shaft, and what I thought was a cone appears to actually be the plastic drive sleeve and bushing in one. There wasn't a forward thrust washer, I am presuming this may be the flange I was describing. The other bits and pieces I have. The guy only wants $250 as he has bought another prop more suited for sking and this one has had virtually no use. Hopefully this gets through as the server has dropped out 3 times on me tonight.

Yes I think you need at least the forward thrust washer, it has a step out that sits against those little raised sections on the back of the cone then seats against the backside of the cone casing housing.
No idea what they are worth as a single unit.
Be sure to torque the prop nut up very tight, it's what Mercury advises.
Not long ago I bought a flo-torq kit for my Yamaha so I could fit mercury props, whenever fitting a new plastic sleeve make sure you use a piece of wood to drive it home or they will sit proud and cause problems.
Your price sounds like a good deal if you can source the thrust washer separate and even if you cannot and must buy the kit.
cheers fnq
