No piccys to put up as we simply didn't think to take any.
The first night Dave got a good tailor and I got a good flatty, both taken at Shark Bay. The next morning saw us out on the wall, but there was nothing there. Into the boat and up the river close to Goodwood Island where we had a hot session with flattys using bait.
Up there the next day using bait and couldn't get a touch, so Dave switched to soft plastics and he had another hot session while I persisted with bait and got nothing, which didn't improve my mood.
Spent the week just moving round the river, picking up a good tarwhine and some good flattys, but the usual haunts such as the wall, Shark Bay, Main Beach, the Bluff, Brown's Rocks etc all really didn't produce. In fact, it was very hard to get rid of a yabby most days, but we managed to bring home a pretty good result.
All in all, not a bad week. We've worked a lot harder for a lot less.
Managed to link up with Tye Porter from Bush n Beach while we were there and he gave us some good tips on catching big jew, but even he has been struggling a bit.
It is not the amount of fish caught TOL..it is the time spent with friends and the relaxation factor that counts...glad you had a good time down there.
TOL - you're making me all twitchy talking about all my favourite spots in the Iluka area. I'm not due to go down there until about mid-July. I've found the fishing usually better in July than May or June, having tried them all. Did you notice anyone fishing the niggers at the Iluka Bluff? - a couple of sessions on them is always the highlight of each trip down there for me
Cheers Freeeedom
Mate, I'm not getting any younger!! Had to go to the chiro last night for a bit of repair work and have to get some xrays done this morning. Might be called old age. Tried out my little Shimano 4000 spinning reel matched to a 7' Penn Power Stick 3-5 kg and it's a magic little outfit. I used to back the drag right off just so I could hear the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noise, which used to annoy the crap out of Dave.
Freeeedom,
Mate, I hardly saw anybody at the Bluff after luderick. In fact, I don't think I saw anybody out there at all, except a couple of people spinning for tailor.
Most of the luderick fishing was right in close to Colless' Wall, but I didn't see too much action there either. I guess you could try at the old Iluka Ferry Crossing, but as you probably know, real estate up there is at a premium. Don't upset the old codgers who fish there whatever you do. They get quite excited if you're in their spot.
The weather was quite warm, too warm for the start of winter, which might explain the lack of the traditional species for this time of the year.
We were told by a resident that huge schools of Australian salmon went through the area some time ago and probably cleaned out just about anything that was there, which might account for the lack of numbers, but I think it needs to get colder first.
TOL ive found the jew to be really quiet at the moment as well, havent got one this season yet.
You wouldnt know tyes mobile number would you?
Ive been trying to get in contact with him for a while now. Used to see him most weekends wen i was chasing the bluefin but now they've moved on i havent seen him
Cheers mate
