recommend a supplier for an evinrude gearbox???

Our boat is laid up with a shot gearbox. My fishing partner knows how to fix it but needs a 2nd hand gearbox at a decent price.

1989 Evinrude 140 V-6, Silver, Australian made
AE140TXCCM (that TX indicates an extra long shaft)
Serial # A1600062

We are in nthn NSW (lismore) and have just been using the local yellow pages to find suppliers. We have found a guaranteed rebuild in Carringbah Sydney for $1400, and Yatala may be able to do one for $1100. There is another place in Sydney that will do the basic gearbox for $500 and Jeff says he can do the seals etc himself for a total of $750 all up including the transportation of the box and shaft. He's still looking to try to find a cheaper option (and one that will just transfer directly to the existing housing and without having to muck around with different shafts which looks likely with the $500 jobbie.) Anyway, I told him that I'd put it up here to see if anyone might know where we might be able to access one preferably closer to home (GC or Brisbane both good).

A big ask I know - but you never know your luck in the big city.

I'm away for a few days - so if by chance somebody is able to help, I won't be able to thank you for it until the weekend.

try Arizona Outboards in Charmhaven, NSW, they will ship it to you at the right price, I think the guys name is Steve, I have got some stuff off them over the years.

thanks Noel, Jeff has tried Arizona. Scott, We'll try Southside wreckers - I'm assuming they are not part of Southside Marine , who he has spoken with.

Scott its a tooth off the reverse gear and that has damged the pinion gear in the process - somebody (me??) has pushed it into gear too slowly and allowed it to grind too much on the way in I think. The extra long shaft is what is causing the problem and even though we have the billet numbers of the cogs - understandably, nobody wants to ferret through their bins to try to find the equivalents

Goodonya Scott - the bloke at Southside knew exactly what we wanted and had it. Very helpful. Still cost $770 - but a comlete gearbox pressure tested and oiled up ready to bolt straight on without the need to muck around with odd bits and pieces and with a 2 month warranty. We are happy! - thanks again for taking the time
