Nice one, looks like a great day on the water
Went up the river in a mate's boat today. Left from Pinkenba and headed up to Mud to see what all the fuss was about. First cast in gave us a little stargazer, then not even a bite for a couple of hours.
We then moved onto the 3 Markers out the mouth of the river and started hooking some fish. First was a decent Mackeral, followed by a smallish Cod. Then we pulled in a Nice sized Shark. We followed that up by our first keeper a 60+cm Cod. We had a few other good hookups but they were bustoffs. One took me on a 360 deg tour around the boat before busting off and taking the tip of my rod with him.
The fish stopped biting there so we headed to the first rock wall and had a pretty good run on the Bream getting two good solid keepers @ 26cm each, and a bunch of smaller throwbacks. We then headed back to the boatramp, stopping at the rockwall just before it where I hooked a small Taylor and a keeper Squire. I also had the rear end of a Atomic Chicken chomped ( probably another Taylor ? ).
Pretty much all of our catches were on squid, I threw some Gulp's out, but apart from one getting chopped they barely got a look-in from the fish.
Nice one, looks like a great day on the water

good fish mate! dont know if you said or not
but where was the brick wall???

Great day on the river mate , were you floating the squid or on the bottom?
There was two walls that we stopped at, one was right at the mouth of the river where you'd turn right at to go to St Helena. We fished just in a bit from the corner.
The second rock wall was on the way back to pinkenba on the right hand side just after the boggy creek split.
On the bottom. I was using a cheap pack of predone rigs from Kmart which had a swivel going to a hook with a sinker on a second line tied off about 1/3 from the swivel. Pete was using the traditional running sinker, swivel then a leader and the hook. Both rigs seemed to hook up well.
nice mix of fish how did the shark fight?
I would have used a flash, but some clown forgot his camera so had to use the camera phone.
The shark fought really well, unfortunately it was my mate Pete's catch, but watching is almost as much fun as reeling
