great job.fished the pine for 30 years and never caught squire.as it gets colder the summer whiting increase in the upper pine.
Hi all went out this morning with a mate to chase some whiting in the Pine. After rigging up got the worm in the water long enough to grab the other rod out and bang smahed by the big summer whiting 32cm he put up a great fight on my little 6'6" starling then every time we dropped the line got more whiting lots of winteries and some more good summeries. then got a nice 40cm dusky and later just before we were about to leave one last drift got 2 nice squire 36cm & 38cm my first squire ever.I didnt know you could get squire around there.
any way a good day and some dinner for a change.
cheers Brian

Nice work on the mixed bag. We caught one legal and a couple undersize at the Dohles rocks 2 winters ago good to know there still coming in to the river.

have caught them near where the old houseboat used to be and along where the trawlers moor
Guys
Squire were caught towards the mouth not far from the hornibrook bridge.
I hope they wernt a one off as they are great fun on light gear.
Cheers Brian.
The pine river can be full of surprises some days.
I like fishing up near the paper mill at petrie along a boulder wall with live prawns.
In one 4 hour session with my brother about 5 yrs ago we caught 12 species of fish not counting toads and catfish and eels.
From memory they were jack, bream, whiting, taylor, cod, tarwine, moses perch, 12lb jewie, 3lb morwong, 4lb flathead and a 35cm or so squire.
That was the best day i've had in the pine for yrs and started a new assault on new habitats i had overlooked so many times before.
I have also caught 3 largish trevallies up in the big part of the river at petrie on pine too and that really surprised me.
Squire from Dohles Rocks is quite a common occurence during winter even though 90% of them are throwbacks. You just need good live unweighted prawns and a low depth high tide. Up near the stakes just short of the hornibrook will often produce lil squire too.
