    Fishing Dampier West Oz

    Hey Ausfishers,

I've recently moved to Dampier/Karratha for construction work and have taken my fourby and boat with me this time. This fishing over here is excellent and ramp facilities are much better then in my native Townsville. I've only fished off Dampier so far, but the amount of different options is staggering. The cobia I trolled up in the first 10 minutes of putting the garfish rigs in the water. As for the trout and cod we caught them the second time I went out fishing. We caught lots of smaller trout that would be legal in Qld but in WA they must be 45cm. The biggest cod just went over 65cm.

    Cheers

I'm probably going to go down the same route as yourself Bluefin59, I've been here for 6 weeks now and can easily see myself being here for a minimum of 3years. I work a five week roster over there and fly back to Townsville for a week off at the end of every stint so I do get to go home and catch up with mates which helps a lot. The fishing is to good over there, mackerel galore, plenty of trout and other reefies not to mention that anyone who puts the time in will catch a sailfish, and this is can all be accessed out of a 12foot tinnie.

    Hi Luke,

I was checking your site out prior to leaving QLD for some info on fishing the West in that particular area, top site. I will have to catch up with you when I get back from RnR to find out the local fishing tips. I'm also keen to have a crack at spearing so if you can point us in the right direction that will be a great help.

    Cheers

    Re: Fishing Dampier West Oz

I was over there fishing the week before last with a couple of mates who are locals over there.

How'd the shootout end up? Was looking a bit sad the week before.

P.M. me if you need any fishing mates - they have a boat each and I'm sure they'd keep an eye out for you.

That the back of Delambre in the background?

    Hi C.J.,

I flew back home to QLD last Friday and the weather up until then was looking very ordinary. As far as fishing mates go, I don't have any shortage of people wanting to go fishing as I currently live in a construction camp. The only problem with this is that not many of them have any idea on whats going, can't tie rigs, still don't understand the concept of not having a level wind on overheads and mostly above all are arm chair experts. The main problem with this is that they're good mates so I guess I'm stuck with them. As for the pictures the cod and trout were caught around Angel Island.

GBC the shootout wasnt the best, only 16 Sails and 1 one marlin were tagged over 2.5 days, down from 99 the previous year and 167 the year before.

Luke - what do you put the low numbers down too - just a timing/weather thing or illegal fishing from our nth neighbours
